Hey, as a person who's never built a PC before, I'm wondering if any of you have some advice, recommendations, tips, or things I should keep in mind for this build

location: USA
Budget: around $900 before tax (for the pc)
Goal: great ventilation and cooling with no concerns of overheating, especially if I ever overclock -- 1080p smooth/competitive gaming

Any help is appreciated 👍

Here's some component changes to consider. Intel's 11th gen Rocket Lake due out in a few weeks from now offers native support of 3200MHz RAM, PCIe 4 along with improved IPC. TBH though, this is the worst time ever to try and obtain a graphics card due to the shortage on them.

Maybe drop the storage drive for now and go with a single 1TB SSD. You can always add a storage drive later on.

Here's two reviews of the current Intel 10th gen Comet Lake i5 10400F. Expect the newer Rocket Lake version of that chip (i5 11400F) to pump out better numbers for the reasons I stated up above.

Unless you know of someplace where you can easily get a graphics card for near retail price it might be worth waiting some months for the current shortage to potentially improve. Otherwise, 1660 SUPERs are currently selling for upward of $600 from resellers online, and tend to be out of stock at most stores.

600 for a 1660 Super? I was recommending them at 250 dollars not long ago. Crazy.
