My friend recommended I buy a i5 4690k I’m trying to get the best possible processor for the cheapest amount of money I have a gtx 1070 and an amd fx-8350 right now which do you recommend? Also I’d prefer not to change the motherboard but I gusss I have to if I’m going to switch to Intel

You've already maxed out your platform (the fx 9000 series is terrible so that doesn't really count).
Switching to an old quadcore is not a good move even tho it's a decent bit better than the fx.
I would recommend you to get a ryzen 2600(x) or 1600 since those got a pricecut.

Your friend is correct in the fact you can get to keep your RAM as long as you use something like a Z97 motherboard with it. It means you can upgrade to the i7 4790k.

Looks like you want to save your DDR3 by Choosing DDR3 Support Memory, but if you want to upgrade, Upgrade to Ryzen, and don't pick AMD Fx Series, better for you to buy Intel DDR3 Gen. < Intel 5 Gen are supported of DDR3.

Yeh you will need an AM4 socket motherboard.

New board and ram. You could also go intel if the main requirement is gaming but it's the same story there.

Everything new, but you can sell your old system so at least you can get money back!
