Advice on future upgrades

I am looking for advice on a possible upgrade in the next week or so and maybe a plan for the future. I currently have an fx6300 and a r9 280x. It plays everything but I am looking for better fps now. It was originally a budget build which I now want to start upgrading.

I'm looking to put 350-400 in it for now. What should I do first? I was thinking the new i5 w/ mobo and DDR4 ram. But I wanted your advice to make sure it's worth it! I have ideas but I'm always indecisive about my pc lol

Edit: this is long term btw. So I want the first upgrade to show the most improvement

There is a very simple way to test the best upgrade path.
Open you favorite game (better few of them) and record your FPS (fraps, msi afterburner or whatever).
once you are done, lower the resolution of the game (1080->720 for example) and play while recording again (better same part).
After you done, just compare the FPS.
If with lower resolution you get higher (significantly) FPS -> you need a better GPU
If you have about the same FPS -> stronk CPU (i5 K series with Z mb) is your upgrade.

If you want an opinion - upgrade your monitor cable to the one of 1000$ -> will improve your FPS.
or go search the forum for "CPU bottleneck" crowd.
make decisions based on data, not opinions.
