Hello, my pc is getting older, around 4 years I think… I am fine waiting, as my pc still works very well, but it’s been having some trouble in the newer titles. Any suggestions on what parts I should get for 1080/1440p 60fps new titles on ultra. Or should I hold out for newer parts?

Also, do you think there could be a possible bottleneck? My GPU may be better than my cpu!
  • RTX 2080
  • 32GB DDR4 3200
  • Ryzen 5 2600
  • 5TB NVME
  • 800W Gold PSU (Too much I think, but it was on sale + my last psu exploded haha)
  • Msi X570 Tomahawk Max WiFi
  • NZXT H500

Solution
Yeah I agree, do you think a platform upgrade would be warranted?

Yeah, that's another idea too with Black Friday sales.

Cooler: Deepcool ak620 or Noctua D15s.

Look at upgrade graphics card when RTX 50 series arrive, hopefully hear more about that later next year. AND hopefully they improve their connector.

You'll want to reinstall Windows with a platform change. Deactivate activation in your MS account before upgrade if you want to reuse your licence.

Cpu is sluggish compared to rest of your specs. Should upgrade to 5800x3D or at very least 5600x. 5600x be quite the leap, your fps minimums be at a higher level since cpu determins fps. 5800x3D in all it's glory is what you should aim for if you want the most out of your motherboard.

Cooling situation will be different so if you upgrade and don't have an adequate cooler that'll be another thing to consider.

Yeah I agree, do you think a platform upgrade would be warranted? Bc cpu + ram + mobo is like 400 at micro center. Or like 200 for 5800x3d!!! Also, Yeah thank you very much!!! i would’ve forgotten about cooler… right now I’m using stock cooler so not good haha!!

The motherboard you have is robust enough to consider one of the 7/9 versions of the Ryzen 5XXX(X3D) line of CPU. I would be on the fence about replacing the 2080. There are certainly better cards out there, but at what price? I would weight that aspect of the decision against your monitor resolution and framerate.
Yeah, the 2600 is getting very old in cpu heavy games!! Do you think Should I platform upgrade or just cpu? Yeah I’m not sure what to do about gpu… i could definitely get one now, but the 40 series doesn’t seem like the best generation, but can I wait until 50 lol… I didn’t even buy this gpu, i won it which is why my system is so imbalanced… what gpu would you recommend

I tend to stay behind the curve a bit anyway, such as to purchase the items at much less than retail after they are the "has been". If it were my dollars to spend, I would look at something like the 5600X or better CPU, keep the graphics card you have until another upgrade cycle in which you may opt just to do the graphics card, or a whole system update.

Huh ok I will definitely wait for the graphic cards as the 4060 seems way to expensive for 8gb of vram… I’ll see what this Black Friday holds for whether I should platform upgrade or just cpu!!! Thanks so much for your help!!! Do you think I should AIO liquid cool or air? I am unaware of which is currently better at this time lol.

Yeah 100% will wait for Black Friday now, thanks!!! That article was interesting I was surprised by the lack of a massive performance gap, though I wonder how it would compare if they had a normal gpu rather than a 4090…

Ahhh which of those two coolers is better? I know nothing about them!!! the only other cooler I’ve model I know from the top of my head is a 212, because I’ve had one laying around for someone I knows pc.

I look forward to 50!! Haha yeah, I don’t want more explosions/fires in my pc lol!!! Btw why should I reinstall windows with a plat upgrade?

You obviously don't have anything against AMD builds, so why not get an AMD GPU? They're much better value for money compared to Nvidia, who get away with charging more because they can.

Noctua D15s is better by a couple degrees but cost more. I've always had Noctuas, build quality is always top notch. I only know of Deep Cool from discussions, haven't used myself.

Reinstalling Windows avoids driver and registry conflicts. For best performance always reinstall.

7800x3D can cool properly on air. Avoid aio if you don't want pump failures which will eventually happen, 2~3 yrs maybe 5 if lucky. Besides pump failure, there's possible leaks, air bubbles, corrosion. Meh. Air all the way if you get a good cooler.

Yeah AMD is awesome, I would definitely consider that!!! I need to research a bit as I don’t really know their GPU lineup! also Do they still have driver issues? As that’s the only reason I went with Nvidia when I built my pc.

What’s like their equivalent of 4070/4080?

Yeah I’ve installed a noctua in someone else’s computer it looked amazing; and it’s build quality was excellent, but it did cut my hands a lot do to the case being almost too small for the massive cooler haha!!!

Yeah, I don’t really wanna deal with that unless I’m custom loop cooling, which sounds like a working project, rather than a burden.

Thanks for all the advice, if i decide to platform upgrade I’ll definitely reinstall windows!!! And I’ll probably go for the Noctua, but possibly repaint because the brown is a very strong color lol!! Would that effect the temps?

AMD really haven't had major driver issues for many years....every now and then a certain driver doesn't play nice with a certain GPU, but this doesn't happen often and is quickly fixed. It's not like Nvidia has never had driver issues, the difference is AMD tend to take longer to mature their drivers, so when comparing GPUs, you always want to check out the latest comparison.

As already mentioned, the AMD GPU closest to the 4070 would be the RX 7800xt, and the closest to the 4080 is the RX 7900xtx...but this usually beats the 4080, so the in between GPU is the RX 7900xt which is slightly below the 4080.
