1. You should list your budget first. How much are you willing to spend?
2. If you're on budget, then you probably shouldn't be looking for i9. For latest gen Intel cpu models - i9 advantage is just extra efficiency cores. i7 have same number of performance cores.

Ok sorry. Around 300 dollars, trying to get around window 11 CPU exclusion of my CPU to upgrade..so.. any suggestions on CPU/motherboard upgrades with current hardware?

Ok..just follow up...my motherboard is socket 1151 lga.. is there any CPU that I could replace my current 7700k... without motherboard change?? Or just better overall to change mb and CPU wit current existing hardware?? Just wondering. Thanks

You would spend your entire budget and gain next to nothing.

Instead, buy a new motherboard that can support a trickle of upgrades. They may not be meaningfull, like this proposed i9 upgrade, but we don't know for sure. Faster RAM would be another future upgrade.

The LGA1700 socket has a few very nice CPUs that scale in power and price almost pefrectly. So pick something you can afford today, and keep an eye out on prices.

I wouldn't bother with an i7, not a 12th gen.
When you get some money, replace the i5 with a 14th gen i7 14700K and let the good times roll. Until then, buy a 32Gb kit because it will be very handy to have in the coming years. 16Gb is very close to the limit.

Alternatively, you can even go for the i5 12400. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/tLKKHx/intel-core-i5-12400-25-ghz-6-core-processor-bx8071512400
That lets you buy CPU+Mobo+RAM for $350. The 12400 is faster than your current 7700K and it's also faster than the 7900K.
And it comes with it's own cooler, though you have some kind of cooler already.

What cooler do you have, btw?

Stock Intel cooler, so it could probably be upgraded also will all these various builds work with my current ddr4....kind of only budget for mb/ CPU switch with memory...change down the road abit...

The (12th gen) stock intel cooler is... it's buzzy at times, and it can't keep temperatures down as well as an Assassin or Noctua. But it does the job. You won't lose performance over it and it's included with the purchase.

I have a i3 12100 with a stock cooler and it's pretty silent most of the time, but when the little i3 starts boosting, it gets buzzy.
It's better than the old 3rd gen stock coolers at least. i've skipped the 7th gen so i don't know what it's like.

If/when you have money to spend, opt for a good cooler. Probably around the same time as when you consider a i7 14700K upgrade. You can also try the i5 13600K. I have that one as well, and it's pretty amazing. 14700K is faster and a little more amazing, but the 13600K may be easier to get.

As for your RAM, you can keep it. Until you have enough for a new 32Gb kit. The one i linked is pretty damn fast and it's from a good brand.
You can try selling your old RAM once you buy the new one. Try to get some money back.

I would ask another question.

What do you use the PC for, gaming, work programs, if work programs which ones?
That's a very good question.

Since we know one of the goals is Win 11, i would also throw in that my cheap i3 12100 blitzes Win 11. It's decent in moderate workloads as well, but it's Win 11 performance has been very satisfying.

That is another reason i would not overspend on i7s, because some of the i3 and i5 12/13/14 gen CPUs are really competitive.
But that all depends on the intended workload.

So yeah, what will you use the PC for?

Us it mainly for gaming...alot of fps stuff and a little posting YouTube videos...etc trying to keep build cheaper for now with room to grow...later. just trying to get past win 11 restrictions..but also have decent rig for my uses without ditching current hardware at the moment..

What resolution and refresh rate do you use? Or want to use?

i9 9900kf is the highest on your mobo, if thats all your looking for you should be fine with that

I mainly use 1080 144refresh my rtx2060 usually good at that....
Yeah, i think you'll be ok with the AsRock Riptide i suggested, or even the Pro RS SkyNetRising chose.

I would suggest a 12400 or 12600K CPU, depending on which you can get cheaper. 12400 is enough power.
Look to upgrading the CPU in a couple of years. Upgrade RAM before that. Maybe even swap the 2060 for a 4060.

You will have options. Just don't try to buy an old CPU, it will not deliver an uplift in performance. Better you invest in a decent motherboard.

Thanks think I'm going to try the 12400 and riptide..bonus is 12400 comes with cooler...than later change out ram and of course rtx
...thanks for all the help...it kinda helps clear the jargon..
