Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for some advice regarding choice of new GPU.
My current GPU is the MSI Radeon RX 6750 XT Gaming X Trio 12gb, however it is faulty and is currently being sent back RMA.
The retailer says they would normally only offer a direct replacement, but in this case, they no longer stock the 6750. Because of this, I think they are likely to offer me store credit (nothing confirmed yet) which I can then put towards getting something else from them. If that is indeed what happens, I would be looking to purchase the new card ASAP (dependant on the timeline for the RMA process) as i'm currently having to use my old 1050 ti.
I originally paid £305, and i'm not too keen on spending too much more than £100 extra on top of that, but I can stretch the budget a bit for the right card if needed.
I'm based in the UK and the retailer in question is Ebuyer (https://www.ebuyer.com); so if it is store credit that they offer, then I'd have to buy something that they have available and in stock.
My current system is:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
CPU cooler: Corsair H100x RGB ELITE
Motherboard: Gigabyte X670 AORUS ELITE AX Rev 1.3 (current BIOS - FB4 - 12 Mar 25)
RAM: 64GB DDR5 (2x 32GB - G.Skill F5-6000J3040G32GX2-FX5, Flare X5, AMD EXPO kit)
SSD/HDD: 1x Crucial P3 PLUS M.2 NVME PCIe Gen 4 1TB SSD, 1x Western Digital 2TB HDD, 1x Toshiba 3TB HDD
GPU: MSI Radeon RX 6750 XT Gaming X Trio 12gb
PSU: Corsair RM850x (5-years old)
Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 700 Full Tower
OS: Windows 11 Home 10.0.26100 (24H2) fully updated
Monitor: AOC 27B1H 27" IPS Full HD Monitor (1920x1080) - also linked to main TV using HDMI splitter
I do a reasonable amount of gaming (mostly the likes of Borderlands 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Sea Power) at 1080p (I don't do 1440 or 4k currently, but may do in future) but nothing where insane performance matters much. I also do some video editing in DaVinci Resolve, but nothing crazy there either. I don't usually run anything overclocked, everything on my current build is at stock specs.
I've narrowed it down to these six choices:
1) XFX RX 7600 XT Speedster SWFT 210 CORE 16gb (SKU: RX-76TSWFTFP) at £329.99
https://www.ebuyer.com/2191982-xfx-...dster-swft-210-graphics-card-for-rx-76tswftfp
2) XFX RX 7700 XT Speedster QICK 319 BLACK 12gb (SKU: RX-77TQICKB9) at £399.99
https://www.ebuyer.com/1896651-xfx-...ter-qick-319-black-graphics-card-rx-77tqickb9
3) Sapphire RX 7700 XT Nitro+ 12gb (SKU: 11335-02-20G) at £419.99
https://www.ebuyer.com/1896214-sapp...t-nitro-graphics-card-for-gaming-11335-02-20g
4) PALIT GeForce RTX 5060 Ti INFINITY 16gb (SKU: NE7506T019T1-GB2061S) at £429.99
https://www.ebuyer.com/2525539-pali...graphics-card-for-gaming-ne7506t019t1-gb2061s
5) XFX RX 7800 XT Speedster SWFT 210 CORE 16gb (SKU: RX-78TSWFTFP) at £459.99
https://www.ebuyer.com/2278206-xfx-...dster-swft-210-graphics-card-for-rx-78tswftfp
6) XFX RX 7800 XT Speedster QICK 319 CORE 16gb (SKU: RX-78TQICKF9) at £467.99
https://www.ebuyer.com/1896650-xfx-...ster-qick-319-core-graphics-card-rx-78tqickf9
So in terms of 'bang for buck', which of these cards would offer the most value for my situation? I'm also hoping not have to upgrade again for a few years if possible.
In terms of brands, my preconceived notions from what I've read online is that XFX are fine, but not much more than that, whereas Sapphire are a top brand (?) and Palit are possibly fine but not necessarily great? Is it right to let my 'brand snobbery' interfere with the choice I'm making here? I do very much like the look of the Sapphire card. I don't really want to go through the RMA process again if possible as I use my PC daily for work, so reliability and quality is important.
Also, if I've understood correctly, the two 7700 cards are top of their respective brands' ranges (the BLACK model for XFX and the NITRO+ for the Sapphire) whereas the 7800 cards here are both the basic CORE model. Does this really make much of a difference? I'm not bothered about RGB but I am bothered about build quality, reliability, cooling, etc.
From what I've seen of benchmarking for the 7600, I don't think its considered to be particularly good for the price. I had pretty much ruled it out, but left it on the list in case somebody out there comes up with a compelling argument in its favour?
From what I can tell between the two 7800 cards shown, the difference is an additional fan for an extra £8 - surely worth that small price step for a bit of extra cooling?
As for the 5060 Ti - I believe a much newer card than the others? - I've seen in some of the benchmarking that there's not exactly any better than the 7700 or 7800 for gaming (1080p) but excel in other areas that I don't *think* I'm going to make use of? Plus as I mentioned above, I've got the impression (rightly or wrongly?) that Palit aren't the best brand to choose (?).
My initial leaning is towards the Sapphire 7700 (unless it really is no better than the XFX 7700); OR to stetch the budget for the QICK 319 model of 7800, but only if XFX CORE-level cards are reliable and the performance difference is worth the extra £48 over the Sapphire 7700. That said, I'm happy to be convinced on any of these options.
Thank you in advance for any advice offered.
