Advice to buy up or no

I currently have an ATI FireGl V7700 Workstation graphics card ........ building a new P8P67 ws and wonder if I should just dump the old WS card and go with GTX 560 TI or GTX 460 Fermi

Any thoughts

If you are a gamer then you must be disappointed having FireGL card.
Another info, full specs are really going to help us here...

True full specs do help, not much of a gamer on odd occasion may play mostly Photoshop, Cad/Cam 3D but have to admit FireGl V7700 was a great card in it's day it doesn't play as well as one would think with some Cad/Cam programs which lean more to Nvidea......Cad/Cam 3D usualy aren't concerned of rendering so much yes use wire frame and rendering but not to the photo realistic that an Engineer would want to s see his creation.

Intel I7-2600K ( choose this over I5 for the Hyperthreading used by most Cad Programs)
16 GB Kingston Hyper X 1600 DDR3 ram
Kingston Hyper X 120gb SSD SATA 3 (OS/Programs)
Kingston Hyper X 240 gb SSD SATA 3 ( working storage)
2 WD Black 500 GB SATA 2 Raid 1 for final storage, archiving (already had these but did consider 2 velociraptors)

So was considering a Graphics Card and was kind of leaning away from workstation class

HD6870

GTX 560 DirectCu II Fermi

GTX 460 Fermi

Quadro 4000 (but not sold on benefit over gaming cards)

What resolution do you play on ?
The best card between those is 560 Ti

if you're gaming than the above mentioned, first three cards will fit that scenario. However, if you use your machine for productivity - e.g as you mentioned above than...your best option would be to go with the quadro.

Workstation/productivity based rigs have tailor made GPU for offloading render work which as you already know is handled best either by quadros or firepro's.

I know what you're going through now cos the machine that i'm writing to you from is used for Photoshop +CAD renders+some Maya tessellations but mostly for gaming. If i had gotten a quadro or a firepro than the gaming would've gone down the toilet. But my productivity is shot down only cos of a gaming grade card.
