Advise for CPU selection

Hi guys

I am building a very low budget, ITX pc and I will be using it mainly for internet browsing, watching HD movies and very little to none photoshopping. I will have it hooked up with a 32 inch 720p Samsung TV. My problem is that I don't know if an i3 will do the job for me. Any suggestions? I won't probably install a graphics card since I will be using the onboard video of the mobo listed below:

Thanks in advance!

Yeah I understand that but I want to keep the budget as low as possible. I believe it doesn't worth the extra money just for a little use of photoshop.

Then I belief the I3 is a good choice, I run a media server on my home server with Pentium G2020 and it works fine.

you could use a amd apu a6 would be fine

plus the graphics would probly suit it better since there more powerful then intels current graphics also

Well there is a significant performance difference between the two. Check below.

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/350/AMD_A6-Series_A6-6400K_vs_Intel_Core_i3_i3-3240.html

true but i was going cheap on it you could use a8 5500 65w tp

but the graphics well take it out in graphic tasks

pass score 4059 so not quite same performance as i3 but better

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A8-5500+APU&id=41

in single tasks isnt best but shines in graphics tasks

its a bit of a coin toss in that department or you could wait for kaveri apu which should match i3 or just out pace it which will be out in 2014

True hence why i say apu it would work for internet browsing and videos will run better and since hes using it on a 32 inch tv the graphics of the intel will not support such a high res but the apu should handle it fine once you bump up the shared memory video memory to 2gb

you could always move away to a micro atx htpc silverstone makes them

http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=283

this way you could change the board to a88x board without lil cost but have a option of going for kaveri later on next year when the prices drop as kaveri gpu will be alot more powerful then trinity and future proofs your build mini itx builds will jump up the price

kaveri is said to rival a i3 in single performance on paper so far they have announced a 95w version but i bet in the second quarter they will release 65w versions

You are hooking it up to a 32" TV for HD video and movie playback. For all intents and purposes that is an HTPC. 😛 My HTPC doubles as a spare WoW rig.

Well I bet Intel has the answer for it already :)

At around £88 I think it's my best choice.

unfortunately the are focusing on more ipc improvements and die shrinks haswell was suppose to have a gpu compared to a gt 640 sadly that didnt happen and still couldnt compete against trinity
