Is AES-ecnryption with a 14+ Character password by Truecrypt enough to safeguard a SSD?

How long would it take for the world's fastest brute force machine to get it in? What if the password wasn't all words?

Also, would putting AES-TwoFish-Serpant encryption on the SSD ruin it's performance? Or it wouldn't matter because data is read almost instantly from the flash memory chips in an SSD?

Does it reduce life span or does encryption happen in memory more often?

More on the lines of homework. I've read only some artciles and info on wikipedia, but I'm not sure I fully understand how it works when placed on SSD rather than hard drives because I've had it on HDD and it takes forever to load the system files.

I want to be protected from theft because this area gets suspicious sometimes; we already had 2 break-ins down the street.
