After I hover over/click on 'Open With', explorer.exe crashes

After I hover over/click on 'Open With' on a file, for example when I try and open a .wav file with something other than Groove music, explorer.exe crashes.

On the attached video, notice a heavy CPU increase. Is this something to do with it?

see if this helps

right click start button
choose command prompt (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter
once its done, copy/paste this into same window - if you type it, make sure spacing is right:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

SFC scans and cleans system files, DISM cleans the image files SFC uses to compare, so if SFC fails 1st time, run it again after DISM & restart PC

No luck. It doesn't crash now, it just freezes. I think it's to do with COM surrogate as other people had the same problem. I installed k-lite codec but still nothing. This was one solution that was suggested.
