After replacing A7N8X I have D/L speed issues

After replacing my motherboard A7N8X Deluxe 6 weeks ago my internet
download speed has dropped almost 50%, I had great speed before my
Motherboard went bad. I had the cable guy check out my connection and
it's good.
I have two computers using a Linksys router, when I check my download
speed, one will get very good speed. The other one will get almost 50%
less.
Network settings are: Internet enabled. - 1394 connection2 enabled.
Home Network connected 3com. - NVIDA Disabled.
If anyone has the same setup, (2 computers) would you be so kind as to
post what your setup is.

The nVidia connection is better, AFAIK.

Make sure you have the latest drivers... check my sig.

I have 2 computers running thru a NetGear Router into DSL BroadBand.
On the A7N8X del ver 2 I use the 3Com with all others including 1394
disabled.
On the other systenm its an NIC add in card.
Both connect to the router not to each other with the usual cables.
The NetGear Is a wireless 4port router and my Laptop connects wirelessly.
Both PC seem the same speed and I've run DSL speed test on both and they are
very very close.

They are quick to connect to each other.
But...and I have not really tested this...it seems that the Laptop is faster
to connect and download the pages from the web.
On the other hand it has less programs running in the background

Well, I have the lastest drivers and have used nVida but my speed has
not changed a bit. Needless to say I'm totally frustrated, I have
never heared of this happening before.

What about the connection between the two computers, is that fast?

I'm also wondering if it's something obscure like network packet size.

You say you replaced your motherboard... was it a straight swap?

Try uninstalling your chipset drivers, rebooting, and then reinstalling
them.

Yes is was a straight motherboard swap the AMD CPU was upgraded from
2700 to 2800, this is the only difference.
I have installed a separate NIC and checked my D/L speed but it's just
about the same. This I thought would solve the problem. My mental
health is starting to suffer a little more than normal 🙂

Obscure network packet size. I'm not sure what you mean by this.

I've reloaded all the chip set drivers but my system doesn't like the
niVida driver, it'll reboot in the middle. I hate when that happens!

You can set the maximum packet size (it's in the registry somewhere),
it's called MTU and relies on a few factors. If you set it too large,
the packets have to be split into two and you incure twice as much
overhead. It would seem unlikely that this has happened, however.

It's possible that a BIOS upgrade can make a device or two, as well as
anythn attached to that device, be redected... perhaps something liek
this has happened.

I would most definately try to work out what is going wrong there.

A good way to diagnose which driver is causing the reboot is to run the
setup program, then navigate to: C:\NVIDIA\<driver directory> and remove
folders for drivers, and then going back to the driver setup to hit
next, next, next...

Trial and error, but it might help you out. Have you ever tried to
install a network driver manually? Perhaps an NRM one? I had all sorts
of problems when I tried that on my nForce2.

Well I found the problem. After installing a new hard drive and with
only windows loaded, I got back up to speed 3500kbps. After loading
many programs I again checked my speed, it was down to 1600kpbs!
Removing programs one by one, then checking my D/L speed I found out
that Zone Alarm, upgrading to the new version was the culprit.
I only hope someone learns by my misfortune.
