[SOLVED] after SSD upgrade, no booting from DVD

Hello,

I have a booting problem when upgrading hdd to ssd in my fujitsu s751 laptop. Originally laptop (with HDD) worked fine and booting from CD was working, when selecting the biosbootmenu. Then I removed the HDD and installed the new SSD, it is correctly recognized in the bios. But when booting from DVD now the laptop is freezing; there is just a _ visible and nothing happens.

  • When putting back original HDD it will boot from DVD, also boots fine from CD without any harddisk/ssd installed in the laptop.
  • With HDD installed the expected message will appear like "hit any key to boot from CD". When SSD is installed this is not shown it just freezes as mentioned before.
  • I choose to boot from CD with the bios bootmenu, select CD and than nothing....
  • All bios settings are correct, removable device booting etc is enabled (this is proven by the fact that it does boot without SSD installed)
  • the bios correctly detects the SSD.
  • The boot discs are working (since it boots correctly with SSD removed)

Do you have any ideas? I have tried both windows 8 and windows 10 installation media to boot from DVD?

Solution
I suspect your bios is in UEFi + Legacy(Bios) mode so when you installed Win10 it likely defulted to a UEFi install and now the bios is blocking you from booting a foreign OS (on the DVD)

Do you have a secure boot option in your bios? Try turning it off.
CSM might need to be On if you have that setting. (Compatibility Support Module)
