hello :) so i decided to download msi afterburner the other day and im really new to this but i get the feeling something's wrong because the values only show when im gaming (core clock, memory clock, gpu temp, etc) is this normal? thanks

In settings try disabling ULPS (ultra low power saving)....this feature clocks the card down to its minimum settings when not in '3D mode'...i.e not running a game. My second GPU does this when I come out of a game....its perfectly normal. As long as you see the correct memory , core clocks when you spin up a game you do not have a problem.

i cant go to that setting for some reason. i can't click it. i forgot to mention that i have a laptop not a desktop.

Do you know if your running a discreet GPU or on board (discreet could be anything such as an R5 m230, whereas onboard would be along the lines of intel HD4500).....either way if you are getting the performance you expect then don't overly concern yourself about zero readings in afterburner. MSI afterburner is primarily an overclocking tool and I wouldn't recommend overclocking a laptop GPU due to the additional heat output.

yes, it's a gtx 960m. i'm mainly concerned about the temps because a friend of mine told me that 80 degrees is the limit of the gpu (well mine to be exact).

oh okay, it's just that last time it was monitoring the temps constantly even when i wasn't gaming. after a time, it wasn't anymore. just got a little worried.
