I would like to buy an aftermarket cooler, probably a 212 evo, for my 4690k. You need brackets and stuff that go on the back of the motherboard (ASUS H81M-A), but I have a restriction: https://prnt.sc/flmrnf

As you can see, I cannot see my motherboard, so I was wondering if I could fit the brackets in after taking the motherboard out, bearing in mind that there is about 3mm gap between the motherboard and the back of the case (Fractal Core 1100 fyi) for when I place the motherboard back in again.

Thanks in advance!

Solution
Backplates are not very thick and should fit between the motherboard and the case.
Yes, you will need to remove the motherboard, mount your cooler and remount the motherboard in the case.
If, by chance there is insufficient space, you can always buy some longer standoff screws.

Except longer standoffs may just move the problem elsewhere, e.g. to the PCIe card securing screws and the rear panel with the connector cutouts will probably have to come off.

SR-71 has a good point, not all cases can take a cooler that high.

Cryorig H7 is 145mm high, and is an ever better cooler than the hyper212.

There are some even lower profile downdraft coolers that are available, but none will come close to the cooling capability of the H7. Not expensive either.

The backplate is thin enough that you should have no problems mounting the cooler. (once you take the motherboard out of the case).
