I want to buy $10,000 of stock in AIG CITTI GMC FORD CHRYSLER & 15 of the largest oil companies. If any one of these were to go bankrupt would i loose ll or any of my stock ? Or, do those shares simply become part of the co. under new ownership with a new value ? Please educate me as i'm a beginner !

Stocks are not insured and are therefore risky investments. If a company that you own shares in goes bankrupt, it is entirely at the company's discretion to pay you for the stock as the company would have to buy the stock back from you.
When a company goes bankrupt and liquidates, the first who get paid would be the IRS and creditors. Stockholders are generally the last to get paid (if they even do get paid).
You have to be prepared to lose what you invested when you buy stock.
