Question Upgraded from 1070 to 3070 ...now constant crashes in games

Hello everyone,
Before I start, here is my build:

CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F
CPU cooler: stock fan that came with the processor
Motherboard: Asus Prime H670-Plus D4
Ram: 2x8GB T-Force DDR4 3600
SSD/HDD: Samsung 980 Pro SSD (1TB)/ MSI Spatium 2TB SSD/ original HDD as well
GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX3070 (refurbished)
PSU: 650 W Corsair RM650
Chassis: Digital Storm Vanquish II
OS: Windows 11
Monitor: MSI Optix MAG27C
BIOS Vers. 0412

I'm just a pc novice at best, but I've made several successful upgrades over the past few years with no real issues (motherboard, RAM, CPU, GPU). Right now, I'm very frustrated and hoping someone out there can help. Just two days ago, I upgraded my gigabyte GTX 1070 to a refurbished EVGA RTX 3070 and installed a new Corsair RM650 power supply. I downloaded the graphics drivers, etc, and the card was recognized with no problems. Now however, I can no longer play COD Black Ops Cold War or MWII (2022 version). They both crash constantly. I've used the optimize function in Nvidia GeForce experience for both games and even started Cold War in "safe mode" tonight with lowest settings and it still crashed. At least for MWII, it seems to be running beautifully and suddenly without warning, it just freezes up. I've gotten a variety of error messages (application suddenly stopped, DirectX Error, etc.) My entire pc even seemed to go to a restart tonight and brought up the ASUS screen saying "attempting repairs" after I clicked to restore the system. I have been able to run RDR2 for a few minutes just to test it out and it looks beautiful so far, but I don't know if there are impending crashes coming to that as well or not. Does any of this make sense to anyone? I've done some google searches on this, but I have no idea if this is a hardware issue with the psu or gpu or where to start. My 1070 was running these games just fine and the PC was doing great, so I don't know what has happened. Any info that helps avoid having to visit a repair shop would be great. Thanks.

Try uninstalling the current graphics driver using a tool like DDU, then reinstall the latest driver from NVIDIA's website. Being it's refurbished might not be fully viable.

It's probably a transient power spike issue. Ampere can be bad for spiking. If you can return your new power supply you should do so and get an atx 3.0 or 3.1 one.
 
Your PSU can't handle that card.

It's what the guy above wrote - 3000 series GPUs spike hard, way above whatever wishful thinking TDP implies. I had similar issue myself with 3080Ti, where I had to replace a 750w rated PSU with updated 1000w one to stop the crashes, despite supposedly 750w PSU being recommended for that card.
 
Ok, I'll investigate PSU or see if I can get a buddy to try out this card. Everything I read beforehand stated that a 650W was fine for this card, but maybe that's possible. I checked the event viewer and did find a lot of errors, but I'm not sure what all of that means. At the time of the spontaneous crash/restart there is a "Kernel-Power" line stating "the system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. "
Would this be a stong indicator of a psu issue or am I in the weeds with this?
 
Ok. So I think I've ruled out the psu. I was able to get my hands on a 1000W to try out and still had the same issues. I guess I'll either try the DDU driver removal to re install the drivers and/or return this card and put my old gpu back in. I'll update as this progresses. Thanks for all of your suggestions so far.
 
Update....
I returned the refurbished 3070 card and decided to try a factory new card. This time, I went for an RTX 4070 because it wasn't much more than the 3070, would use even less power and I knew it would have a warranty. I again double-checked to find no compatibility issues with any other components, but still had crashes. COD MWII would crash before shader optimization finished so I couldn't even get into the game. I used DDU to do a full removal and clean install of the drivers and used Nvidia Geforce experience to optimize the game settings. I was able to get into a match at that point and thought I'd finally got it figured out and then the crash happened again after my second match finished. RDR2 just closed down after about 5 minutes of play with no warning and no error messages. The game just closed and showed my desktop. I was still within the return window for this card so I decided to send it back as well because I fear I may end up having to spend more and more $$$$ at this point. Suffice it to say, that for now I'm just back to using my old 1070 and trying to figure out the next move. I spent tons of time reading, researching and troubleshooting to not find the cause thus far.
 
2 things..
1.. check your samsung nvme drives firmware version if it starts with a "3" you need to update it or you will loose data and get crashes. if its firware starts with a "5" your ok,.,.

2)download "memtest64" to check if your ram causing the crashes.
