Hey everyone. I was seeing all the hype for for Alan Wake 2 so I decided to buy the first game on steam while it was on sale since Iv never played it. The problem is the performance is terrible on my brand new pc. It still drops below 60 on low setting. I’m using a 6700 xt and a 5600x3D. But get this, I also installed the game on my older gaming laptop that has 1650 in it and it maxed the game out with no problems whatsoever. Does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on? and before you ask, my drivers are up to date and don’t have any problems with other games. Control runs great for example.

Use Task Manager, Resource Monitor, and Process Explorer (Microsoft, free) to observe system performance.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

Use all three tools but only one tool at a time.

Open the tool window and drag to one side or a second monitor where you can watch what happens.

First play games without problems then play Alan Wake 2.

Look for what changes when the performance drops.

Take your time, be methodical, change only one thing at a time.

As for drivers being "up-to-date" that is generally a good thing. However drivers can be buggy and a newer version may be problematic. Either system wide or just for some application(s).

If nothing is found then reinstall Alan Wake on your brand new pc. The original installation may have been corrupted in some manner.

Hey everyone. DXVK fixed my Alan Wake 1 woes in case anyone else has the same issues. There was some shader compilation stutter, but its mostly gone after playing for an hour.
