I have a really strange problem that started a few weeks ago and I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere online. Whenever I connect to my WIFI network my devices connect fine but they don't have an internet connection. The errors are similar to other issues, Chrome says DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET so of course I tried restarting my modem and my router which didn't work. My router is a dual-band router and the weird thing is that when I switch from the network I'm currently connected to to the other (e.g. 2.4 ghz to 5 ghz or vice versa) the internet usually will start working on that device. So I do have a workaround but aside from the annoyance of this problem my Dell desktop pc doesn't have Dual-Band WiFi so I have not been able to connect to through that computer.
I tried doing a hard reset of my router back to factory settings but that didn't change anything. It seems like a router problem but I have searched all over online for possible solutions most of which focused on changes on the computer side but I tried whatever I could find including:
- Enabling/Disabling IPV6
- netsh winsock reset
- Redirecting DNS to google address (8.8.8.8)
- Release IP
- Troubleshoot with Comcast (cable ISP) who confirmed that everything was working on their end and that my modem is working fine as well.
- And more, but I don't remember all of them
Some more information, I have only been able to test my devices over wifi as none of my devices have an ethernet port, my current devices are:
- Motorola Surfboard cable modem w/ Comcast internet
- Netgear AC1750 dual band router (R6400)
- Dell Desktop - only uses 2.4gHz WiFi so I can't switch between networks
- Dell laptop - dual band so I can get the internet to work as stated above
- iPhone and iPad - same
- FireTV Stick - same
Also, over the last few weeks I have been able to get my Desktop connected to the internet maybe 3 times while playing around with things but it never lasts more than a few hours and then I can't get it back even doing the same thing that seemed to work before. I am not very knowledgeable about networking but typically doing enough google searching answers my questions, but not this time so any help is greatly appreciated!
