Well, First .. I love this site. Not to start my whine., I finally got the guts to build my own box after 10 years of rebuilding my "not 1 piece left is DELL Dell" My new box is a MSI 865 pe neo 2-LS with a 2.6 pentium with HT 800fsb I am now on my third video card (thought that was the problem) it is a gforce FX 5700 ultra My speakers wouldnt work with the onboard sound so I kept my creative Gamer card . I have 2 maxtor drives 80+30gb and I am running W2kPRO with ALL of the updates.. Also I have ALL of the latest drivers for EVERYTHING to include the board Bios. 512mb of MATCHED RAM DDR400 running in dual channel mode. well with everything running in default ..not pushed not tweaked just VANILLA..well This machine is FASSTTT but crashes if I open more than 2 programs or run ANY Game for more than 60 seconds oh I also have a 350 watt PWR supply and 2 cd/dvd drives. I almost forgot to mention after a wek the onboard LAN just freakin Dissappeared from the hardware device menue like it never existed..the only reason I am on now is that I put in my old lan card. Any Ideas????????????????

Try adjusting your memory timings on your motherboard, maybe try turning fast-writes off with your video card if that doesnt help. This is just a small problem you need to nail down, but it will probably involve alot of trial and error. That what working on computers about though isnt it?
How do you like your FX5700Ultra?...I burned one up last week, but I liked it

In addition to what GW said.

Try also 'UNDERCLOCKING' components (this helps reuce power consumption and potential overheating).

With all the stuff you have in your rig; 2HDs, 2 Opticals, a heavy draw CPU, plus an add-in Audio card, you're drawing alot of power. Is it a quality PSU? The FX5700U doesn't draw 'too' much power, but it isn't a GF4mx either.

If GW's suggestion don't work and a reduction in power draw and heat don't work, then you'll pretty much have to go from component to component to pin-point your problem.

Anywhoo, that's my two frames worth.

I would lean toward the PSU also...especially if its a generic/cheapo one..the list of things that can go wrong with a weak power supply is long, and surprising...I had drives disappearing, random crashes and lock ups, games that wouldn't run etc...I put a new one in (sparkle a.k.a fortron) a couple of weeks ago and everything is great, in fact even my case temp has dropped a few degrees.

Yeah, I'm not sure if Fortron uses a single Fan, but the dual fan thing to me is nigh-on pointless. A single fan PCpower and Cooling 510 moved ALOT more air (in a smoke test) than the Enermax 465 in my video rig. To this day I still regret not ordering one from the US. So that likely explains your reduction in temps too. Amazing what a BIGGER (or just better) quieter (lower RPM) fan can do for cooling, even at the PSU level.

Power problems do seem to be a serious issue nowadays, and it seems likely to only get worse with the newer procs, and cards, and mobos. Plus everyone adding their old HD in with their new HD, a few opticals, etc.
