Almost done with build, GPU and PSU advice please!

Hey all!

I have been around here for a while, so I really should know what to do by now but I have 2 questions.

First off I have almost all of my parts except for the PSU and GPU!
Here is what I just got at microcenter today:
i5 3570k
Hyper 212 CPU cooler
AsRock Extreme4 mobo
Corsair 300R Case
Samsung F3 1TB 7200rpm
ASUS DVD Drive
Corsair Ballistic ram 8GB (2X4GB) 1600 9CL
ASUS PCI Wireless N card
Windows 7 64-bit

I already had Windows 7, my hdd, and dvd drive from a previous build so I am reusing those.
I got everything else for exactly $500 at microcenter. Not a bad deal :)

Anyways, I was thinking of throwing a GTX 670 FTW edition into my rig, as well as a 650w PSU probably SeaSonic or Antec. 80 plus certified of course.

My budget is basically $1000, so I would be right on budget if I got those.

Would 650W be enough if I was going to overclock? Also, I know how awesome the 670 is, but do you think I am overspending on the GPU? I want this rig to last for a long time and I was thinking if not the 670 then maybe going much cheaper with a 560ti. Thoughts? My monitor is 1080p and I don't really have plans on SLI. Thanks!

You didn't say it but I'm assuming it's a gaming pc. Get the 670 it'll be worth it especially since you want this to last a long time. The 670 is a lot better at gaming than 560ti.

If you won't SLI, then 650W should be good enough. Good luck!

hey guys! so i ordered the corsair 650tx v2 on newegg for $80. It was on sale yesterday so i went ahead and jumped on it. However, I am having second thoughts about the GPU now. I am thinking I shouldn't spend as much on it as I initially intended. I looked around and saw my options for around $250-300.

Any opinions on those price points? Mostly I saw threads about the 7850 vs. the GTX 570. I am just hesitant to invest in a 570 because it is older technology. Also, for AMD a lot of the threads were saying that nVidia has better drivers. So basically I am not sure what to do.

It seems like the 7850 would be the most logical buy, but for some reason I'm hesitant. Any news on the 660ti floating around? That would probably be around $300-350 if the 670 stays around $400.

I have had AMD before, but I have never had nVidia so that also might be why I am hesitant. I kind of want to see what nVidia is all about. Maybe I should just stick to the 670 and spend a little extra? I would like to keep this rig for 2-3 years without upgrading.

I think I may just have to go ahead and go with the gtx 670. If I am going to be using it for a few years it might be a worthwhile investment! Plus, I really want the latest and greatest from nvidia. Whew i can be indecisive sometimes! If I wanted to SLI a pair later on will my Corsair 650w PSU be enough to handle 2 of them? Also, my cpu will have a mild overclock to around 4.0 or 4.2. Thanks!

Notice how I said I was indecisive in my last post lol. I am going to go with your advice and get a 7850. It should be more then enough for my needs. And if I need more power I can CF later on. The 650tx should be good for 2 of those right?

I just really don't want to spend $400 on a GPU when I have bills to pay. Thanks!

Any suggestions on a non-reference 7850 that will have a solid cooling solution?

Yup, the asus is the best out of all the 7850

If you can't afford the 670 try waiting out for the 660ti

Any news on the 660ti? I don't want to wait too long but if it is coming out in less than a month I could wait. Any pricing news on it either? Thanks!

Edit:also if it was released soon, how long does it typically take for a nice non-reference model to be released?

You know I don't want to wait that long. And I also don't want to regret my purchase so I will go with the 670 again. I will go for the toms hardware recommended one, the Gigabyte model! Ahahaha I know you guys are all like this person is crazy indecisive. A fool and his money :)
