I need a range extending device which can catch the WiFi system of my college from the lawn area(about 400-500 meters away)
i was suggested AWUS036NH-2000mW by a friend as it would capture the signals even when i go to a friends apartment (about 1 km away).
i wanted to know if this device is going to auto-support the basic WiFi that we use. and also about how it would function?is it like the WiFi card on my laptop which catches the signal and connects my computer via a cable(attached to the device) or will i need to attach a router as well?

That is just a wireless card with an antenna.

It got really good reviews but how it works for you depends on the area you are in and where the WiFi signal is coming from. A directional antenna on the other side would be needed for a 1km connection. And even the 400 meter distance may need that.
