Already near the 0.13 speed limit?

The Inquirer has it on 'good authority' that the speed limit for the 0.13 process chips is 600mhz, which seems somewhat low considering the number of R9600XTs out there that can OC (with positive returns) beyond 600mhz. Well perhaps it's all them extra pipes and tranies heating up the joint.

They say not to expect much more speed-wise 'til next year. Oie, Jeez, Not Again!

It might be possible that referring to 600mhz as being the limit might be in terms of producing something in mass quantity reliably with such speeds. So it may not be referring to the actual limit that it can reach by an overclocker who takes the risk of drasticly reducing the life span of their hardware and or overclocking with expensive cooling solutions that arn't feasable to include with a card as a standard accessory. The context of which the statments were made can make alot of difference as to what was meant.

its probably the same as why AMD wont release a Barton over 2.2ghz, yet people are gettin them up to 2.4ghz regularily, and even higher.

if AMD used the mobile cores in desktops, they could release a 2.5ghz version easily. of course it would be expensive as fux, but they could because MOST get 2.5ghz stable with low voltage (like 1.8)

FYI, AMD made some 2.33 GHz (166 MHz FSB) AXP 3200+ exclusively for HP, because HP needed to use 166 MHz FSB mobos
