So I have a strange issue I don't even know for sure if it is GPU related, altough I'm considering it.

I have an average computer, i5 12400 F, 32 GB ram, and I had a Geforece 1050 Ti GPU.

My favorite game is Skyrim Special Edition, but I have other titles installed.

I recently got a new 3050 RTX 8GB GPU, and honestly, the game performance is so much better and smoother as expected. Video editing in Davinci Resolve is also smooth and way faster to export my video jobs.

However, I noticed whenever I run Skyrim for the first time after logging into Windows, I just can't alt-tab without that freezing the game. I used to be able to do it with the 1050 GPU. Now, when I run Skyrim for the first time, I probably can't alt-tab and also, the keyboard keys don't do anything (like opening the console or using the END key to access Community Shaders menu). I play with a gamepad, so the keyboard issue is not serious. Well, I can't capture a screenshot with F12, and that annoys me because sometimes I want to capture a moment, but thats it.

So my workaround is to exit the game and run it again. And it will work just fine. Keyboard and even alt-tabbing if I need to.

I'm assuming this is related to the GPU switch because it didn't use to happen when I had the 1050 installed.

When I switched GPUs, I removed the previous drivers and installed the new ones. From Nvidia website. And I'm using Studio Drivers (not Game Ready drivers).

I installed MSI software in case I wanted to keep the fans in check (MSI GPU) but I keep it closed all the time, not even minimized and NOT running in the background while I play.

I wonder if this is related to the RTX type of card vs Ti? Or maybe a driver reinstall will help? I'm getting a bit frustrated here. I know I can play around with the settings - full screen, windowed, no border, etc.), but there's so much I can do based on trial and error, I just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this before, and how you fixed it.

Thanks

EDIT: I found that using Windowed mode (without border) fixes the issue. I actually managed to alt tab and get back into the game, and the keyboard started working. As for people telling me to replace the PSU, I know I have a lower-than-you-think-I-should have gotten, but the thing is, its running in my computer for years, and in my work computer, I also have the very same model and that one is working way longer than mine. I may trade it some day, but its not my priority. People also do not recommend the 3050 RTX, but its running. This issue is fixed. I guess I posted my question in the wrong community.

Please list the specs to your build like so:

include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

When swapping over GPU's, you're advised to run DDU in Safe Mode, to remove all GPU drivers(Intel, AMD and Nvidia) then power down the system, disconnect from the wall and display, removing the older GPU. Swap over to the new GPU then after powering up, manually install the latest GPU driver sourced from Nvidia's support site in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

That PSU is a liability to your entire PC. Replace it with a known good working unit ASAP, unless you want to risk the PC with it.
