Alteration of the loading screen

Hi there. I'm trying to get the windows xp loading screen reverted from SP2 to the first SP while using SP2 by replacing the first ntoskrnl.exe with the one that's used in SP2. It didnt work well though.
So I wonder if there's a manually way to do this without any third party software editor, like by editing boot.ini or adding any parameters into the file.

I tend not to encourage messing with system files if Windows is running okay. I think the reasons for that should be fairly obvious, wins. We do not wish to be responsible for someone having screwed their Windows up with unnecessary meddling when there are dozens of people every day coming to us for genuine tech help.

That's not necessarily the view held by the forum administrators though, just me. Other members are free to help you with that of course if they so wish.

Yea, it's a customization question with low priority so take your time answering the more urgent questions before struggling with this one.
I've backuped all important files and I've also got the installation cd at hand so it should be no problem messing around though.
