Hi,

I have a brand new PS5 Controller that I like to connect to my Windows 11 gaming PC build wirelessly however my PC has no Bluetooth just usb wifi. I am not good at playing games with Keyboard & Mouse and just like to do casual gaming on the PC that is connected to my TV meaning I will be using the PS5 controller up to several feet away on a couch/sofa/bed.

Questions are:

- What's the best way to connect my PS5 controller wirelessly to my PC with the least amount of Input Lag to the PC as possible?

- Will the Input Lag increase or the wireless signal be weak or obstruct the further I am away from the PC?

- Will something like this added to my PC build solve the above?: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ziyituod-A...682776368&sprefix=ziyituod+card,aps,85&sr=8-3

Otherwise which PCI Card or USB device you guys recommend? Is internal PCI better than external USB?

Cheers,

There's only Bluetooth, so that's really the only option.

No, it'll just drop out.

I've used https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-USB-BT500-Bluetooth-5-0-Adapter/dp/B08B9WQFTL/ for several years and it's been flawless. It doesn't even require drivers.

However keep in mind that PS5 only supports DirectInput, which most games today don't support. You need DS4 Windows to make sure the PS5 controller works in those games, though keep in mind they'll still use Xbox controller prompts.

I used a program called SCP back on PS3 controllers. It was pretty terrible. I read that the PS4 and on controllers are supposed to be just plug and play. I never have been able to get them working as well and as easily as using an Xbox controller, and in particular the older ones. (newer Xbox controllers require an additionally priced fob to work on PC)

I don't like the layout of the Xbox one as compared to the PS style (even thumbs), but the constant issues with connection or actual control function in spite of compatibility and settings in such as Steam. It was just about as common to have each game give completely different results if they all worked at all.

This has supposedly gotten better and so forth, but given the walls people like to put around their technology gardens I wouldn't expect a Sony branded device to be as long term trouble free as when there is an MS branded one available. Like it or not....

With that bluetooth usb adapter you mentioned, do you get drop outs if your like several feet away from it? And do you have to plug this adapter at the front Usb port on the PC not at the back usb ports to improve the connection with the controller?

Are internal PCI cards superior to external usb devices when it comes to doing the same job?

Bluetooth 5.0, which is what the controller uses, is designed for a range between 100-1000 feet. And it doesn't matter where you plug it in. I just tried a quick test with my earphones and I can walk anywhere in my apartment without issue.

There's no advantage to using an expansion card.

PCI Internal expansion cards that are directly connected to the motherboard have no speed advantage over external usb devices plugged in USB 3.0 or higher ports?

What it is my relative spent $3000 on a gaming PC about 2 years ago that has built in wi-fi and Bluetooth that came with a magnetic antenna connected via PCI slot on the motherboard I think. I assume this must be the latest Bluetooth version 5.0 spec considering its a gaming pc costing $1000s. However with my xbox series controller at the time trying to game on it while I was several feet away, drop outs occurred and the input lag was horrendous until I moved the wireless antenna to the front of my PC that was facing towards me that solved the issue.

What I'm looking at does not have a moveable magnetic antenna so it be located at the back of my PC:

Even if it has a moveable magnetic antenna I wont locate it to the front of the PC because it looks horrible.

So can you confirm if I buy the PCI card above from amazon I wont experience no issues?

Does the wi-fi signal frequencies interfere with the bluetooth signal frequencies?

Cheers,

No. Bluetooth has a maximum throughput of 50Mbit/sec. USB 2.0 can cover this 7 times over.

No guarantees.

If you're using the 2.4GHz band, then yes.

Sorry I meant are PCI expansion slots on the motherboard faster or larger bandwidth that USB 2.0 or even USB 3.0?

Okay so my wi-fi network is dual band meaning it will switch automatically between 2.4ghz and 5ghz depending on the surroundings to get the best connection. So if my Pc wifi is using 2.4ghz while gaming then I'm screwed?

It doesn't matter. The communication is only going to be as fast as the slowest thing in the chain. That is, Bluetooth isn't going to work better on USB 3.0 or PCI Express since it's much slower than either of them.

If you have a car that can only go 40 km/h, it doesn't matter if you bring it on a road where the speed limit is 100km/h, you can only go 40.

It just means you can expect the connection to be less reliable.

Okay what is your advice to have a constant reliable connection whenever gaming? I just want a reliable connection like game consoles wireless controllers connected to their consoles wirelessly.

The only way to achieve a constant reliable connection is not to go wireless.

In any case, all of the factors means that there's a small chance of the controller dropping out. It doesn't necessarily mean the controller is always going to be dropping out or dropping out so frequently it's impossible to play games.

I cant imagine plugging in a very long usb lead cable like over 10 feet in length to my controller and pc just to game comfortably on a couch or bed.

You telling in this day and age of pc gaming there's no constant reliable wireless controller pc gaming even if I buy the latest wireless hardware component parts like above Bluetooth version 5.0 and Wi-Fi 6?

How do games consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series have their gamers game reliably on a wireless controller wherever they are in a room?

I understand wired is better than wifi for playing online gaming which is a different topic to the above but I just want to game wirelessly on a popular controller like ps5 or xbox series controllers.

If by "cosntant reliable" you're asking for essentially 100% reliability, there are a lot of things outside of your control that could potentially affect the reliability of the communication between two devices.

As an analogy, try imagining you want to talk to someone in a busy restaurant across the table. It's loud, there are lots of people talking, and chances are there's music being blasted somewhere. You can't just tell everyone to shut up and have the music turned off just so you can converse with your friend. This is the kind of environment most wireless devices have to contend with.

I feel like you're blowing what I'm saying out of proportion. I'm only point out sources of potential interference. And "less reliable" doesn't mean the system is reduced to flipping a coin in terms of reliability odds. It can literally be 98% reliable instead of 99%.

Honestly rather than keep going about this, buy something from a store with a return policy and test it out. A week or so should be more than enough to figure out if what you bought is reliable enough for your needs and you can return it if it doesn't work out.

Hi, i use my duelsense on pc with a relatively cheap usb BT adapter with no issues, you can use a program called dualsense x to map xinput from the controller for games that only support xinput, that program also allows you different profiles for the adaptive triggers
