High speed ram usually comes with high latency. I wonder which is more important or critical in the real world, speed or latency? I found that low latency ram is significant more expensive.

Noted your determination that low latency ram is significantly more expensive.

However the actual question is high speed vs high latency.

What do you believe is the answer to that question and why?

You're slightly off on the whole high speed/high latency thing. Most enthusiasts at least, seek out faster and faster DIMMS, with as low latency as possible. OEM's cater for that. They charge premiums for it.

But, you are right about the cost. Low latency DIMMs cost more. For sure.

I have no idea if it is good for speed trade-off latency. Therefore, I brought out the question.

Try.

Based on what you have read and experienced with respect to your own system which (speed or latency) would you believe to be more important?

And there is not necessarily a "right" or "wrong" answer.

I am only pressing the matter because the question seems very much to be a "homework" type question.

Forum rules prohibit doing "homework". Your question may or may not be homework. No way to truly know on this end.

In any case, the key is for you to present what you think is the answer and why.

Present a starting point answer based on your thinking and reasoning.

Thanks.
I was a college student many years ago. I was not aware of my question probably against the forum rules.

Speed vs latency is a misnomer because they both combine to make up the actual latency of any given kit. There are also all sorts of subtimings that can change based on the type of memory IC being used.

Examples:
DDR5-6000 CL30 vs DDR5-7200 CL34 the latter has better speed and latency than the former.

2x16GB DDR5-7200 CL34 vs 2x24GB DDR5-7200 CL34 the former will typically perform better out of the box due to subtimings.

As with many things, the answer is, "it depends."
It depends on everything from your definition of important or critical, to what resolution you are playing at, if talking about gaming. If your question is in reference to a future purchase, just make sure you're picking up at least DDR5 6000 CL32 and you should be good.
