[SOLVED] Aluratek AHDDU100F - Can't get 2.5" Hard Drive to Fit

I have this Hard Drive reader and I can get 3.5" SATA hard drives to fit, and then read them.

The unit is a 2.5" and 3.5" docking unit, it says, but I can't figure out how to fit a 2.5" hard drive into the unit.

My understanding is that 2.5" drive = internal laptop hard drive.

I have 2.5" SATA and ATA hard drives that I want to read. I don't have any illusions of getting the ATA drive to work in this device, but I don't know what I am doing wrong or missing when it comes to the 2.5" SATA drive.

Any suggestions?

I feel like I must be making some dumb rookie mistake.

Hello.... the connector type must be the same? Not all 2.5" have the same type of SATA connectors, some might have a "msata" which is very special and different than "standard sata"

The drive was from a Toshiba laptop. 2002ish - couldn't find the model of the laptop marked anywhere.

The hard drive itself has the following on it:
Toshiba
MK4018GAP
HDD2166 C ZE01 T
40.00GB (LBA 78, 140, 180Sectors)

Yep. that an IDE HDD, not going to work on the Aluratek.

Yep. that an IDE HDD, not going to work on the Aluratek.

Ugh... Well, thanks for looking it up.

Can you tell me what general device / cable I should be looking / asking for to hook the drive up, if you know offhand?

You would want a usb external for IDE HDD

It seems that I have one of pretty much every hard drive ever created. 3.5" ATA, 3.5" SATA, 2.5" ATA, 2.5" IDE HDD, etc.

Does there exist a sort of "Swiss Army" attachment that reads all these? I'm not aware of such a device, but I could see it being good for tech guys that do a lot of hard drive work...
