already have a spare Ryzen 3950X CPU, and a pre-existing old video editing workstation that needs an upgrade. The only parts that really need to be replaced is the motherboard and RAM; the workstation will be retaining its current RTX 3090, 850W PSU, storage devices, case, NH-D15 cooler, etc..
The main difficulty is that the selection for high-end AM4 motherboards is pretty spotty, a lot of nice boards like the Asus Pro Creator series are already out of stock, and even for ones that are in stock, its extremely difficult to find QVL rated 128GB RAM kits that are also still in stock at first-party retailers in the USA.
Since this system is going to be running 24/7 under high loads, my thought is that it should really try to go with a motherboard with the X570S chipset (the passively cooled X570); thoughts on this? Not that I am against B550, but given that we are aiming for 128GB RAM (4 x 32GB DIMM's), and for sustained heavy load, these seem like an ideal combination.
Searching PC Part Picker for X570S motherboards with Wifi only gives about a dozen results; https://pcpartpicker.com/products/motherboard/#V=9000,8000
(I know there are other passively cooled motherboards that arent included there such as the Asus Dark Hero too)
I have spent some time digging through the list of available boards trying to find ones with QVL 128GB kits that are also in stock, but have not had much luck.
Any suggestions?
