FAKE OUTRAGE
If you do some research you find the ACLU did these comparisons with the reliability set to 80% confidence when Amazon specifies 95% for facial recognition (Rekognition can also be used for objects and places for which the default setting is 80%). Run the tests again at 95% and see if there is still a story.

wow, did they get it wrong

99% are criminals and the rest are crooks

the percentage of politicians indicted for one thing or another only matches that of the nfl and nba, and those are the professions that felons can thrive

It's illegal in the US to take a bribe, yet politicians take PAC, SuperPAC, and other outside donations to vote specifically for issues that benefit these types of groups, and nobody says anything. The machine got it right, throw every single one of them into jail.

"reliability set to 80% confidence."
So Amazon ‘Rekognition’ is fairly confident that at least 4.1869% of the 535 members congress are arrested criminals.
(28/535 marked as arrested criminals)*(8/10 true positives) = 112?2675 ? 0.041869... ? 004.1869...% ? 1/25
not including false negatives

four categories: false positives, true positives, false negatives, true negatives
positive/negative is how the test turned out
true/false is what actually is

"Amazon ‘Rekognition’ Falsely Identifies 28 Congress Members as Criminals"
What's the actual number?, if it's not 28? 0?, 535? something else?

It might be nice to see a side by side pictures to compare the mug shots of the members of congress to the mugs shots of the arrested criminals that these members of congress look like
-
p.s.
? 1/24 is closer to 112?2675 than ? 1/25

And try again at 95%.

I've seen effective facial recognition software in China. They used the system to arrest over 1,000 fugitives in a few days!!

Good grief! They're ALL democrats!!

Now I understand why the ACLU is upset - LOL!! If it were all Republicans, they would never have complained or even let anyone know.

BTW, great organization - really a bunch of outstanding citizens...

"A recent incident in San Francisco provides a disturbing illustration of that risk. Police stopped a car, handcuffed an elderly Black woman and forced her to kneel at gunpoint — all because an automatic license plate reader improperly identified her car as a stolen vehicle."

OMG, the US government has the duty to create a training plan for police officers. In Quebec, you need to go to college for 3 years for becoming a police officers. You guys are insane if you believe a bully from high school could become a proper cop.

The number of stupid incidents with the law force are outstanding. The only thing I could say is WAKE UP.

All of the white-collar criminals will not be facially recognized? Celebrities who are criminals get away with their crimes? Nobody has spoken about such biases. How much does it cost or who/what do you have to know/be to have your data removed from the data-bases?
