Amazon Fire HD8 (6th) not detecting 5ghz wifi signal.

I recently purchased an Amazon Fire HD8 (6th Generation). I thought this device can connect to a 5ghz wifi signal, but my device isn't detecting the 5ghz signal. It detects a 2.4ghz signal. My other devices, such as iPhone 5,5s,6s,7, and Fire HDX 7 (3rd generation) all detect the 5ghz wifi signal coming from a Verizon Fios Quantum Gateway G1100. Any ideas, am I missing something painfully obvious?
