hello,
i'm curently with a P333 and it's time to step up. between the amd 1.2 t bird and the p4 1.5,which chip would be better. experienced users help! I use maya.

actually you don't need any hands-on experience to get an answer. there are facts that can be nailed down plain and simple:

1. Maya is neither P4 optimized nor SSE2 optimised yet (so P4 is not a good buy at present for Maya users);

2. Maya costs at least 10 times as much as a P4 combo you can buy now down the street. so, still thinking of upgrading to a P4 and SSE2 optimised version later? surely you could if eithre you are RICH or you use PIRATED copies...:);

3. Maya, like 3D Studio MAX, is extremely raw-FPU-power-thirsty.

if i were you, i'd definitely take the Athlon DDR or even better the Athlon DDR SMP route.

Some are ignorantly happy,
While some, happily ignorant.

Easy choice. The FPU power of the AMD processors makes it pretty straight-forward. The only thing I would have to debate with would be whether or not to wait until the AMD Dual-proc motherboards are out or to just go with a single. If you are rich enough to buy Maya, then you can probably happily use a single proc now and buy a dual proc system later. Then you can link both systems together on a home network and start a little rendering-farm.
