Hey All,

Just planning my next upgrade and looking for some guidance regarding the upcoming 5600X and it's compatibility with existing AM4 Motherboards.

I currently have a Gigabyte X470 Ultra Gaming - https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-ULTRA-GAMING-rev-10#kf

Details on AMD's website are scarce - I can see that it's socket AM4 but I'm unsure if it will simply work with the X470 Mobo if I have the most recent BIOS.

Any guidance greatly appreciated!

AMD gave MB manufacturers AGESA code and tools to make BIOS compatible with Zen3 processors and it's up to them to implement it. Main problem is BIOS capacity but most makes have large enough BIOS although they might have to make BIOS with less options than with 500 series chipsets.
If they implement it, it will be at beginning of new year, nobody expects them earlier. For now and as far as I know only MSI and Asus have committed for next year but even when it shows up it will be labeled as "Beta BIOS" and available only with a proof of purchase of Zen3 CPU.
From business side it's somewhat understandable as they would rather sell new MBs.

from last bit of rumours on the web that I soaked up so I'm not sure if it's true is that compatibility for b450 and x470 series MB's won't be available at launch. it will come later in 2021 late Jan. or Feb. How true that is I don't actually know, I am curious though as I have an x470 board and would love to get a 5000 series CPU. We'll see what happpens....
