Amd 6500 or the 8350

I am replacing an AMD FX-4350 with a budget around $120 and found out that I could buy an eight core for that much and was wondering which is better for playing modded Minecraft while running a server. Is the AMD FX-6300 better than the AMD FX-8350 only because it is $40 cheaper or is there a reason to buy the 6300?

The thing is, yes, the 8350 might do ok there. But it's 5 year old technology. If the op decides to get into more than just that, or starts running things more modded that requires more than that old 8350, then what?

One option is sell your old equipment online. I think fx 4100 CPUs are going for about 40 on eBay, I think I sold 8gb of ddr3 for 30 something. If you've got 120 you aren't that far.

Op, if you did want to go new, could look at Intel.

Something like that with a board may be around 120, if you still your old cpu/ram that should give you enough for new ram, and you could later bump up to an i5 etc.

no thanks, i'm not too interested in Intel. I'm just going to save up for a ryzen system.

Once you manage to save enough for that, you'll be glad you didn't waste money on FX.

Don't get me wrong, the FX chips were ok in their day, but Ryzen is a nice step up, especially paired with a good gpu. I went from an FX 6300 overclocked to a Ryzen 1600 6 core 12 thread. I have that overclocked to 3.7ghz. I was able to score a good deal on a used RX 480 8gb card, and I'm telling you, even on 1080p 60hz monitor, it's nice to be able to turn up all the details a good bit.

if you get a fx 6300 or fx 8300 now your system will be Worth alot more used than with the fx4300 thats Another thing so if you get it you probably can get more back to if you sell it when upgrading to ryzen.

a fx system here in sweden with gtx 1050 ti sells for about 700 s , a system with 8320 sells for the double new. I guess its up to him if he wants a temporary solution where he can get more Money back Selling it or if he will wait. just saying the option is there

True. Kind of strange they are selling for that much. It seems on ebay in the US the 8350 is going between 70-100 US dollars. I htink he might be able to sell the old cpu for 40, but when you go to get rid of the system, who knows what prices would be like.
