AMD 8350 not up to speed

I have an AMD 8350 Black edit. in a MSI 970 Gaming with 32 GB of G. Skill 1600 ram. I'm running F@H 0n 5 cores @ 1400MHz each. No matter what I do it won't run at it basic speed of 4.0GHz. I uninstall F@H, try OC genie and manual OC, still it returns to 1400MHz. Any ideas?

Do you experience the same issue with other programs ?

In general when something like that happens, it is usually an indication of thermal throttling, and the thermal limits on a 8350 are pretty low in comparison to the more recent AMD CPU's. So at least check thermals, that might always be an issue.

I don't think so. I read the "AMD 8350 thread" and I don't think is a termal issue. I'm going to install AIDA 64 to see what's going on. Can this cpu get in thermal troubles @ idle?

It shouldn't get into trouble @ idle, unless there is a problem with the heatsink mounting, fan or overall airflow ( dust buildup etc )

So my temps readings are low (due to the low speed). How can get it to it's base speed? It reject any change in the bios or using MSI command center.

That board has a slow mode vertical flick switch , right at the front of the board below the ram.

When this is enabled,it locks the cpu to a 7x multiplier giving 1400mhz.

Turn the pc off, push the switch the opposite way, reboot & see,if this changes anything.

That was it. I flip the switch and presto, back to 4.0GHz. Thank you all.
