yeah, i had a nighmare trying to install an 4870x2 and i updated the bios to see if that would make a difference but it didnt, turned out that it was the ccc software. i did think that that my be why so i flash back to the previous.

You can try re-seating but I bet you will get lower temps just by purchasing a better cooler...

The zalman coolers used to be the top dogs back in the day.... now they are just so-so coolers.....

Ok, do this.... Re-paste and re-seat.... Once everything is installed, check the RPM's @ LOAD and make sure the fan is maxing out. If the FAN reaches 2000+ RPM and you still have high temps then it is time for a new cooler... If not then you should be fine....

If those temps at max LOAD ex.1hour prime large, you will be fine max temps for cpu are 62c after that is when its bad, but lower is better

correction 3.82 is stable at 1.48 volts with 55c max load temp... i can reach 1.5 just to hit 60C but no need for the low gain

What kind of memory are you using, and what are your timings?

I'm running the same proc, and I'd like to see how my DDR2-800 memory may or may not be holding me back.

BTW, I don't go past 47.5C when running Prime95 x64 at 3.762GHz when using an AMD stock heatsink from a Opteron 165. Not bad for a used $10 heatsink.

215MHz × 17.5 × 2-cores
1.344V Vcore
CnQ disabled
ACC enabled

I can get to 3.838GHz (202 × 19) stable with Prime95 using both large and small FFT sets with a Zalman CNPS-9700 tossed on and Vcore set to 1.425V. Core temperature never exceeds 44.0C with the small FFT stess test or 45.5C with the large FFT stress test.

I can get to 3.90GHz (200 × 19.5) stable with Prime95 with the small FFT sets and Vcore at 1.450V, but it tends to fall over within 10 minutes using the large FFT sets.

I can boot to my desktop fine at 4.0GHz (200 × 20.0), but Prime95 falls over within a minute or so. Nice for the big four-oh amusement value, but not much else.

FYI, my ambient office room temperature is toasty 28C. But then, it is 38C outside. I could crank the AC some more, but then the rest of the house would be an icebox.

yea i think my cpu is just requiring more volts to get higher... im at 1.48 to stable 3.82? rofl temps are fine but still thats high volts for that clock speed... i should get 4.0 easy but nope! i do got a question would fsb make it harder to stabilize? im at 212 x 18 i think.. thought about going down to 206 x 19 ?
