Hi Guys,

I've got some issues with my AMD A10 6800K. When I am playing games with it, it seems that the apu cannot handle the games I am playing (DOTA 1🙁) ) The display flickers.

When I read about benchmarks online, i thought that it was a good cpu. But why does the display flickers.

Please help me, should i buy a discrete gfx card????

Why does it seem like people here have a standard response of "upgrade to better hardware" to most questions, and it's so often a huge exaggeration?

Dota1 is just a Warcraft 3 map, a game from 10 years ago.

Here are the game requirements:

400 MHz Pentium II or equivalent, or a 400 MHz G3 processor or better.
Warcraft III requires 128 MB of RAM.
8MB 3D video card (TNT, i810, Voodoo 3, Rage 128 equivalent or better) with DirectX 8.1 support.

I'm pretty sure the A10 6800k can handle this don't you think?

I would check if the cpu cooler is installed properly, drivers, monitor problems, try a different ram stick from a friend.
Integrated GPUs are never good for games. You're better off getting a cheap $35 video card.
But does the monitor always flicker, or only when you play games? If it happens all the time no matter what you do, then the monitor is the problem.
If this only occurs while gaming, then get a video card.
And just because the CPU is good doesn't mean the integrated GPU is good.

wow this is my first time posting here and it was fast. thanks.

back to my problem. it only flickers when i play games. i bought this apu because i thought i can live without gfx card, dang! oh, please note that i have only one stick of memory 1333. is that a factor?

I got a10 that cant play pes2014 at medium setting at first, then I changed the shared memory to 1g, then I can play it at max setting in 1080p in my 24" tv
Here is my spec
A10-6800k
Asrock extreme6
8g (2x4g)1600 kingston ram

Btw you should upgrade your ram to 1600 if youd like to get better

To get the best graphics out of your A10, you need 1866mhz RAM running in dual channel. RAM makes all the difference when using integrated graphics. What motherboard do you have? You should be able to overclock your igpu to 1000mhz pretty easily. Even getting a second stick of 1333mhz RAM will help a little, but you really need two sticks of 1866mhz. There's a 20-30% increase when going from 1333-1866. Get some good low voltage 1866 and overclock it to 2133 and you'll see some huge increases.

my motherboard is GA-F2A55M-DS2, okay i got so many questions, how do i overclock my igpu? and how do i overclock my ram? is there an application for that?

also, any particular ram you can suggest? TIA

You overclock in BIOS. Do you know how to boot to BIOS? I'm not sure your motherboard supports overclocking since it is a A55 series entry level motherboard.

I use 2x4GB of 1866mhz ddr3 G.Skill Ares RAM with my 6800k. I can overclock that to 2133mhz in BIOS with a small bump in NB voltage. I can also overclock the 8670D graphics from 844mhz to 1020mhz without even raising the voltage. I do not recommend raising the voltage AT ALL on the stock cooler.

I will look around for RAM deals a little later. You should look around in your BIOS and read up about overclocking. You can overclock your cpu a pretty good bit too with a good cooler(I've got 4.7ghz x4), but I find it better to overclock your graphics and RAM instead. I also recommend reading up on your motherboard's capabilities.

Are you by any chance playing on a CRT monitor? (that is, the old kind of monitor before flat screens)

If so, then the flicker may be caused by the game switching into a different resolution at a lower refresh rate. See if you can set a higher refresh rate.

Yeah this is very wrong anyway. Your A10's graphics is better than any $35 graphic card. It's actually about on par with a HD 6670 and will easily handle 720p gaming when set up properly.

OP your biggest problem is the 1x4GB of 1333mhz RAM.

i know right. that is why i am very frustrated right now. i dont what the real cause of this problem. i dont know if i should get a gfx card or 2 sticks of 1866 ram.

i had a hard time installing the Thermaltake Contac 16 cooler, im afraid i broke the motherboard upon installing haha. but im pretty sure i installed the cooler correctly. gonna try changing the ram.

thanks guys.

nope, i have LED Monitor

i do know how to boot to bios, however overclocking is STILL rocket science to me haha. will find tutorials on overclocking. btw, i can overclock via softwares right? not just bios?

dude how did you make your shared memory to 1gb?

considering the apu uses 1866mhz ram to max its performance

id have at least 8gb of 1866mhz this increases frames drasticly that and you only have 1 stick your only in single channel which will hinder the graphics badly

also the 6670 amd ddr5 with a 500w 80 plus psu crossfired would improve graphics

update drivers for the apu as well threw amd

JUST WANT TO CLARIFY THAT WHEN I SAID FLICKER, I MEAN THERE ARE SQUARES AND TRIANGLES ON THE GAME THAT SHOULDNT BE THERE, BROKEN GRAPHICS, SOMETIMES THERE ARE LINES.

okay. i bought gskill ripjaws x 4x2. i even allocated 1g and even 2g to vram. i overclocked the iGPU to 1020Mhz. But still when i open DOTA1 i still get these squares and triangles like the graphics are broken. also when i play an hd video, there are green spots on the screen, is there by any chance that my motherboard or my apu is broke?

did you upgrade the drivers ? you really shouldnt occ the igpu its probly do more damage then good and void your warrenty

yes i updated my drivers. well i would explore all possible solutions for my problem, thats why i ocd it.

what i meant in my post earlier is, i dont have any problem with that APU even when i play Tomb Raider 2013, so the problem is not in your APU its something else, you dont need gpu, if the problem persist even when you are changing (upgrading) your ram, then may be the problem is your monitor get damaged or something, try to change your display, changing the monitor to other monitor.
sorry my english is bad

are you hybrid crossfiring ?

also use vga till you get the right drivers depending on your system

try running game in compatibility mode test other games to see if artifacts exist if they do its a dodgy chip

we are talking about a game that is 10 years old here. as newer OS versions, and hardware come out, compatibility issues can arise with games. if you've used the newest catalyst drivers, try rolling them back. search for older versions to use. that might solve your artifacting issue. also go back to your stock settings. overclocking the igpu can cause artifacting issues and your hardware (even with 1333 mhz ram) would be more than enough for dota
