Hi guys! This is my first time to post a thread here so please be patient with me :) also, im a newbie in building pcs, all I want is to build a gaming pc and my budget will be $600. Im not good in looking for parts so I just pick the ones I think that will be good enough for the budget and at least will be good for gaming performance. My thought of building my pc (in my opinion only) is having and AMD A10-7850K and and inno3d gtx960 herculez. And im not sure if this will be a good build for a gaming pc. Also I want to ask if it's okay to have that gtx960 as a gpu. Im also open to other suggestions of pc builds that will fit my budget. Thanks in advance :)

also, if you can suggest a build that will have atleast gtx950 or higher that can still fit my budget, but can still have a decent processor. It's up to you, I really dont know much about these things and I dont want to regret the pc that I will be buying. Thanks again!

It's why the FM2+ platform wouldn't have been a good build due to lack of upgrades for the CPU. It's fine for the here and now, but not future game use (and even some modern games).

MiRazeru, seeing your budget is so restrictive perhaps it's more realistic to go back to 950. You've mentioned Kd0g76's updated build still being a bit expensive for where you live, and there's probably little else which can be compromised on. We could debate price to performance ratios, but if a budget can't accommodate it then something has to change (budget or expectations). Of course, we're going by prices for new components. Perhaps ebay is an option for some parts.

EDIT:

The only component of a PC to be wary of changing is the motherboard. I consider changing a motherboard to be a new build. As long as components are compatible with the motherboard they can all be upgraded (CPU, GPU, RAM, PSU, fans, cooler).

EDIT 2:

Perhaps a more compromised and (hopefully) budget friendlier build. Includes OS.

thanks! if i cant afford to buy a very good one now then maybe i'll just upgrade it in the future :)

yes, it's really about the budget 🙁 but im planning to do some push for my budget if i can. Thanks by the way, it helped me a lot :)

Hi guys! I looked around awhile ago at some shops to ask for prices of rx 480 and gtx 1060, their prices does not have much difference, and i just want to ask what is better between the two? also, from what ive asked awhile ago, the zotac gtx 1060 is the cheapest that i can get, and maybe i can push my budget a little for a gtx1060. Does the brand really matter? what's the difference of this zotac 1060 to other more expensive brands? and by the way, the stores only have 6gb gtx1060 and im still hoping to find a 3gb for a cheaper price. but as ive said i can push a little if I cant find any 3gb, so will this zotac gtx 1060 a good deal for me? Thanks in advance :)

In terms of performance it seems the GTX 1060 edges out the RX 480 on a few games:
http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2518-nvidia-gtx-1060-review-and-benchmark-vs-rx-480/page-4

(Still haven't got used to showing pictures hence links...)

However, the graphics driver does factor into the GPU performance. Some games will favour nVidia, others AMD.

The RX 480 is also one of the top models of the range; but the GTX 1060 is closer to the lower end. If sticking to a brand, then AMD needs a new range to upgrade from the RX 480, but nVidia already have more powerful GPUs in the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080.

As for whether brands matter... to me it's more of a reassurance. Performance will vary due to tweaks like the clock speed of the GPU, differing amount of memory, and cooling solutions to name a few. But as with all electronics it does come down to luck whether it breaks down or not. With that in mind, make sure whoever you buy from allows you to return a faulty item without making it difficult for you.

The 480 and 1060 are very close in performance. On average, the 480 has a slight edge in DX12 and at high resolutions, while the 1060 does better in DX11 games and 1080P. The 480 draws about 25% more power. Historically, AMD cards have pulled ahead a bit as time goes on, either because their drivers were unable to extract their full performance at launch day, or because nVidia dropped support for their older cards. Neither is a poor choice.

Thanks for the replies but i think im close to deciding in getting a 1060 pc build, and i saw only 1 3gb 1060 that is being sold here and it is zotac 1060 mini, will this do good enough for my pc or should i stick with the little more expensive 6gb? also, what processor and motherboard can you suggest me if im going to buy a 1060?

That's not the best 1060/3G to get, but if it's the only one available, it will be OK. The 6GB does have double the memory and 10% more power thanks to having one more SM, but I'm not a fan of that choice. It's overkill for 1080P, but not still not enough power to max out more demanding titles at 1440P. More importantly, the 3GB leaves funds available for a possible i5 instead of i3. While it's true that neither an extra 3GB of video memory, nor the 2 extra cores of the i5 are must haves, if I had to choose one, I'd choose the extra 2 cores.

I would go with that Zotac 1060 Mini, and this motherboard and CPU

Asus B150M-A http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132582
Intel i5 6500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117563&cm_re=6500-_-19-117-563-_-Product

I see it bandied around that the GTX 1060 6GB is 10% faster than the 3GB, which isn't true. The 3GB has 1/10 of the SMs disabled, yes, but they both have the same number of ROPs, same amount of cache, and same memory bus. The performance is closer to 95%.

Ah that's right, same number of ROPS, just 10% fewer TMU's, which makes this the same as the trim job they did to the TitanX to make the almost-equal 980TI. Thanks for clearing that up.

im not sure if i can get an i5, maybe just an i3, what i3 should i get? is i3-6100 good enough?

The i3 6100 is fine. What's your total budget? I'm actually eager to come up with a complete build since we've come this far already. I'm thinking:

i3 6100
ASUS B150-M
8GB OR 16GB RAM depending on budget
GTX 1060 3GB
Seasonic 500W PSU
?? Case ??
250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD + 1TB WD Blue Hard Drive
Optical BR combo drive

I'm doing a very similar budget gaming / HTPC build in Mini ITX for my mother.

I have another question are the amd fx series good for gaming? Im just curious :??:

If im about to buy a gigabyte mobo, what are the options? Thanks :)

Is this motherboard good or not?
MSI H110M PRO-VD D3 1151 DDR4

It's just from a desktop bundle promo, im trying to save more that's why im looking for some good bundles and I just want to know if that mobo will be compatible. Thanks in advance :)

The FX motherboards have the same upgrade problems as the FM2+ motherboards. No viable upgrades afterwards for the CPUs. They are better than the FM2+ CPUs though and in terms of features they are limited and rely on third party controllers.

scuzzycard's build would be out of your budget, MiRazeru. An SSD is generally more expensive than a normal HDD, plus the additional RAM.

Bundles are generally okay though can be more expensive than combined price of individual components. Shop around a bit to see if it really is the best deal.

With others willing to suggest builds in addition to the ones already suggested, it may be worthwhile to let us know where you'll be purchasing your components from, ie. where you live. We've been using $, but it seems the pricing where you are is different. It could help them suggest a build for your budget.

The H110 motherboard is OK - you can swap it in if you want. I used PC Part Picker, and it was not listed, so I stuck the B150 board in as a placeholder.

We're pretty close, but keep in mind this price is still with no operating system. These exact parts may not be available in your location. This is also US pricing, but it gives us something to work with.

I'm very partial to SSDs to improve boot time, load times, and overall system response. If it has to go, it has to go I suppose. It wouldn't be worth compromising on the CPU or GPU for it, not in a gaming build.

Thanks, so i will be sticking to intel build. btw do i really need to have an ssd? or is it enough to have hdd only?

Btw, im from the philippines, and the bundle i saw consists of these:
Intel Core i5-6500 Skylake 3.6GHz 1151 Quad Core Processor
MSI H110M PRO-VD D3 1151 DDR4 Motherboard
4GB DDR4 2133MHz Memory
Plus a maybe a cheap pc case and a cheap 600w power supply. The memory is kingston hyperx I think, and it costs at around $300, is it a good deal? or can you suggest for the other missing parts?

is the ssd really needed? or can i just add it later in the future? isnt hdd enough? after looking at some bundles this is the cheapest i5 (i think) that i can get, or if not maybe im gonna stick with the i3
Intel Core i5-6500 Skylake 3.6GHz 1151 Quad Core Processor
MSI H110M PRO-VD D3 1151 DDR4 Motherboard
4GB DDR4 2133MHz Memory
Plus a cheap pc case and a cheap 600w power supply
It costs at around $300, is this a good deal or not? if it's good then can you suggest for the missing parts? And i also want to ask if the pc casing really matters because maybe I can upgrade the case that is included in the bundle.

Drop to the i3 6100, up the ram to 8gb (absolute necessity for a gaming machine) & buy a half decent quality 450w+ PSU.
Don't skimp with a generic 600w psu mate, its an awful idea.

Even something relatively cheap like the antec vp450 is a lot better than some unbranded rubbish.

yes maybe i'll just upgrade it to 8gb. thanks for the advise about the psu, maybe im going to find some better PSU

okay thanks, so I will be sticking to i3. yep im just gonna find some better PSU thanks mate!

Hi guys, I've done some building and this is what I ended up to. This is my close to final decision. So just tell me if i need to change some parts or if there are incompatible ones, thanks! :)

Processor: Intel Core i3-6100 = 5400PHP = 117USD
Motherboard: Asrock H110M HDV = 2800PHP = 61USD
Graphics Card: Zotac GTX 1060 Mini 3gb = 9999PHP = 217USD
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1Tb = 2270PHP = 49USD
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury 2x4gb = 2180PHP = 47USD
Power Supply: Thermaltake TR2S 500 watts 80+ White = 2020PHP = 44USD
PC Case: Tecware Raiden Elite = 1420PHP = 31USD
A total of more or less $556
well, this build still fit my budget but I still dont have an OS and a monitor lol but maybe I can push a little more for that. Is my build good enough? and how about the PSU? Is it already good? Thanks in advance guys :)
