AMD a10-7870K vs intel i5-4690k

Looking to build a streaming computer for my friend. I was planning on getting him a 4690k but then I saw the new AMD APU. All he needs to do is be able to play modded minecraft, not likely but, possibly run a server, and be able to stream in 720P. I was wondering if any of you knew if the APU could handle that because it is much cheaper, and eliminates the fact of needing a GPU for what he is doing.

Thanks for your input!

I think it will be fine since minecraft is not resource heavy. AMD cpu's actually fair pretty well in multitasking because they generally have more cores. However they get wrecked when one is running one application (in the case of most benchmarks).

I don't know how much the mods will affect the outcome though. an i5 with a decent dedicated graphics...
Well if that's all he is doing, the a10 apu is definitely better for the money. It costs much less than the i5 and already comes with a somewhat decent gpu.

On the other hand if your friend wants to play more intensive games then go for the intel i5 because the amd a10 will bottleneck any graphics card over $200.

In short, I think the APU would get the job done, fairly easily. If the potential server is resource heavy (type of server, amount of traffic, number of users, etc.), it could impact other concurrent uses.

I looked at a 7870K review and it was running more intensive games fairly well, though what the minecraft mods are and size of maps(?) are determinants I can't properly assess.

On my i5 it has a load of around 80% when running a FTB ultimate server, streaming in 720P and playing FTB at the same time. FTB infinity should run slightly better. but keep in mind chances are hes not going to be running the server anyways.

So, this should be my best option for a processor?
