Hi everyone,
A totally weird problem started occurring today on my Dad's work PC. I built it a while ago for him and pimped it out with sweet specs minus a graphics card (since he doesn't play games or edit video). The important piece of hardware in with issue is the AMD A10-7700k APU in it with on-board R7 graphics.
I realized I had forgotten to install AMD drivers on his computer when I built it. It was running on integrated graphics in the mobo. So I did the reasonable thing and installed the latest AMD catalyst for windows 8.1. However during the install the screen went black and stayed that way. I assumed it was just the motherboard switching over to the wrong graphics chip so I waited a while for the driver to install (the computer was still running even though the screen had gone black) then restarted. On restart I entered the BIOS and switched to IGFX (it was on PCI-E for some reason) but once I got to the Windows 8 login screen the computer instantly crashed. Every time I restarted it it crashed with a different BSOD error. I had to restore Windows to a previous state to get the computer running properly again.
I have not reinstalled AMD Catalyst and won't until I know what went wrong. As far as I know I did nothing wrong. Please help!

tl;dr
Installed AMD Catalyst on A10 7700k. Screen went black during install (not just temporarily) and computer couldn't get to login screen without a BSOD with every startup.

EDIT:
Forgot to say: thanks for any help anyone can provide

EDIT:
[SOLVED]
Aha! I read on another forum that someone had an issue with a different APU after installing drivers. I knew that since it was a slightly different problem that the solution would probably be different but I tried it anyway. All I had to do was update the UEFI BIOS and then I was able to install the drivers without any issues.

For anyone with the same problem where the screen goes blank during AMD driver installation for an APU; update your BIOS.

Ummm.... thanks? I know where to get the drivers and I confirmed that the file was exactly the right size so the download was not interrupted (plus my internet is pretty good). I would try again but this is my Dad's computer and every time I have to restore a previous version of Windows I risk losing some of his work files.

Leave the installer runing for about 15 minutes could be that you didnt let it finish and cancled the install when shutting down the pc

That sounds like a more valid solution. Thanks. I'd say it's unlikely that that was the issue however these things don't seem to be an exact science. I'm going to attempt installing again with my fingers crossed... If it works I suppose you've earned 'Best Solution'

EDIT: Unfortunately I retried 3 more times each with varying settings. Each time I left the install for over 20 mins. First time I did it the same way as before. Second I accessing the computer via a remote desktop application to see install progress after the screen had gone blank however this didn't work (not for relevant reasons). Third I attempted the same thing with integrated graphics 'Forced' in the UEFI. I thought this might mean the screen wouldn't go blank as it wasn't switching to IGFX but for some reason the screen still went blank. Obviously I'm pretty pretty surprised by this, I've done everything to the letter and still the screen goes blank. What do I do? Is there a method for me to manually install AMD drivers?
