asus x550ca
intel i5-3337u
750gb hdd
6gb ddr3
intel gma hd

and the competitor being an
hp 15-e040ca
AMD A6-5350M
8GB DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 8450G
500GB

I would really appreciate some help guys! thank you!

The HP is a more ideal choice. The Asus laptop is designed for business and security, being an ultrabook. The HP laptop is much better for things like HD video and some gaming.

Actually the Radeon HD 8450G ranks slightly below the Intel HD 4000. However, this is only based on specs and other Radeon HD graphic cores. The link below has some info about the Radeon HD 8450G, but no game benchmarks. In the center column of the page is the ranking of many graphic cards and integrated cores. Both Intel HD Graphics 4000 and the Radeon HD 8450G are ranked towards the bottom of the Class 3 section. The Radeon HD 8450G is ranked lower. But for now you can just say it is expected to be equal to the Intel HD Graphics 4000 core.

The i5-3337U is clocked from 1.8GHz to 2.7GHz. The A6-5350m is clocked from 2.9GHz to 3.5GHz. Intel CPU cores tends to be more powerful than AMD APU cores. Therefore, despite the difference in clockspeed the two should in general provide similar performance.

The additional 2GB of RAM doesn't mean much when it comes to games. However, the 250GB difference in hard drive capacity means the Asus laptop gives you more storage capacity.

In the end both laptops should provide similar performance overall. The i5-3337u consumes less power so in general battery should be longer.

Agree on the battery point. But I'd choose 2gb extra ram over a TB storage anytime. Hdd's cost less and replace and add easier.
I'd like to minimize my "much better graphics", but still like to see HD4000 beat that amd apu in real life :)

getthe 5350. AMD is smoking intel when it comes to 3d apps right now. expeciallyif you plan on doing MAME or any other type of emulation stuff.
