Hi everyone, I am new here, glad to be part of you. My desktop has broken down recently and I am considering to get one soon. It is really just for my husband and kids, mainly for games and TV. There are two types desktop on sale at argos.ie , both asus brand, but two different CPU, Amd a8 and intel i5, not much information given don't know which generation of this intel i5, would you please advise me which one is better to get? And also will easy to upgrade go the future if needed. Many thanks, Hannah

But the thread opener says she wouldn't mind getting a gpu, since her hus wants to play high graphics games. So with that being the case, what would you propose? An APU or the i5,when it's clear that the iGPU of the APU proves totally a waste upon the addition of the GPU,unless the added GPU is capable of doing hybrid-crossfire with the APU? But the hybrid crossfire would seem a bad choice,as the GPUs with that capability are usually not having some mind blowing performance. If I were the one to choose, with no doubt,I'd go for the Intel, just because we know how good Intel CPUs are, both in quality and performance.

If you're adding a discrete GPU,then the choice of getting an APU is,HELL NO...!!! APUs integrated graphics get disabled when a discrete GPU is added to the system, which means if you're obsessed by the igpu cores of the AMD,then understand the fact that it'll be nothing other than a pile of waste by the addition of the discrete GPU,unless the GPU you're adding is an appropriate one to do hybrid cross-fire with the APU.

I say make your choice, use the heck out of the PC, have your friends try it out... Then return the PC if it doesn't meet your needs. And then try the other PC.

Agree with Kanja....Reviews are your best buddies before buying anything...So you better look out for some reviews and stuffs, and whichever build you find appealing,go for that. But remember, please don't do like JLNum said. You get a computer, not for some trial. That thing can't be easily tried like a Shirt or Jeans. They're not some inexpensive stuff, the computers. You're investing a huge amount, and you'd want to get better performance from what you invested on.Getting a computer so crap and useless maybe easy. But keep in mind that selling that trash and getting a better one won't be easy always. So,if you buy one, make sure that's the best,at least for now,or for a little while.

Thank you all, you all every helpful, have given me so many advices, I have no idea before this, we all think it's easy just buy a pre built and add on a good graphic card. As the fact my husband wants to play the current big games and for future proof, I want to try build it myself if I could with i5 etc as suggested. Big worried as i am totally not expert in this, am afraid after putting components together it will not work or not capable if this is the case i will not know where it goes wrong. I am based in Ireland , lot places recommended for parts only offer delivery within UK, bit worried about how and where to get the reasonable price parts.i have a old computer which had been used and broken now just can not start. Hopefully some parts can be reused.
i really appreciate all your advices and look forward to hearing from you all. Regards,Hannah

Are you north or south? I'm in north and usually buy from novatech or ebuyer although I keep hearing good things about scan and amazon. Delivery is fast and out of 5-6 full builds Ive had one bad part which was really cheap ram.
