Hello everyone, I'm a new user here. I'm not an IT expert but I kind of have an above average knowledge about computer stuff.

So here is the problem, my laptop, Acer V5-552G seems to overheat extremely on terms of temperature, it never suddenly shutdown out of nowhere, but the CPU temperature can go as high as 122℃, is there anyone knows any way how to cool down this CPU of mine?

Note:
it is actual (socket) temperature as shown on speccy, on AMD Overdriver it show -5 to -15 ℃
Have i been overclocking my APU? Yes, i once overclock it to maximum speed possible until Overdrive does not permit me to raise it any further. The problem is, after i turned it off and uninstall Overdrive, the overclock still carries on even after reboot and BIOS reset.
120℃ is occuring if i open any foreground program that require some resources such as Corel, or any games.
Heatsink seems to be working fine, hot air is blowing from it when under load.

The cooling on that notebook is hardly adequate for stock operation and you decided to overclock it?

Try booting into safe mode, or from a tiny linux from USB stick and check the thermal margin again.

Are you 100% sure you were able to clear the CMOS?

Is it still under warranty?

If not, I would tear it down, thoroughly clean the fans and heatsinks, and replace the thermal pads and thermal grease.

Invest in a notebook cooling pad. Even a passive aluminum one can work wonders.

Thank you for the reply damric, my laptop was running fine at stock operation, never went above 70 even when playing heavy game for my laptop caliber if i remember, that's why i decided to try oc'ing my APU, only now i realise it was a mistake, i should've never touch that overclock button.

Safe mode, yes I've read from another forum to try this, it runs around 90-100 C when idle mode and also at power saving, i still think this is a problem too, cause i read that when idle it should run at maximum of 50C. and for Live Linux, I'm currently making a Live USB right now, so i will give you the results soon enough.

Yes, I'm sure the CMOS were CLEARED along with all bios setting when I removed the CMOS battery and built-in laptop battery and try to power up the machine (I read that's how to reset CMOS, correct me if i'm wrong).

The warranty is clearly already void because i reset the CMOS the hard way, and I also have upgraded my HDD to SSD by myself.

I will try to clean the inside once again when i have some time, the last time i clean it maybe i didn't do enough.

and for cooling pad, i forgot to mention i already use one, it's a very cheap one, around $5 if it's converted to USD when i bought it. blows cold air and i've make sure it blows inside my laptop.

thanks again for replying, i'll tell you the results after I tried the Live Linux.

Hello, thanks for the reply. well that's good for you, my laptop warranty has already void and I don't have enough money to buy a new one, so I'm basically stuck with this, nevertheless I've fallen in love with my laptop XD so I'm definitely keeping this one unless it broke down completely XD

I have a hp pavillion 17 with a amd a10 5750m and i took the laptop apart and removed all the prefilters and the factory thermal compound. I had ordered artic silver 5 and applied it to the apu and put the laptop back together. My results were idle temps are 25c to 35c and load temps are 60c to 70c, as for overclocking the apu it was getting up to 3.5ghz on all cores with the igpu set to 900mhz. I do use a laptop cooler , but these temps are without the cooler, With the cooler idle temps were 20c to 25c and underload 65c.
