Hi Guys,

I am really happy with my Intel + Nvidia mix and I would never go back to AMD....

But

I am building a PC for my nephew as he really wants to play World of Warcraft and he prefer PC gaming too, however due to me not being millionaire yet I wanted to use an AMD APU and a small form factor case...so it looks cool and still offer good performance.

The APU will be the one up here, it should run WOW well and so should do with most recent games in mid setting for what I have read, however I am not an APU person as I like my PC to run games properly so I am a bit confused about the RAM to use, would 4GB a 1600mhz give good performance with this APU?

I was thinking of Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL9

He already has a hard drive and DVD....so APU + MB + CASE (with a 300W PSU included) + RAM will end up at £235.83 which I think is a great price!

If your plan is to utilize the APU graphics engine of the A10 6800K, the faster your RAMs -- the higher your frames. The A10 6800K natively supports DDR3 2133, and most (depending on mobo) will run past 2400MHz. In the States 1866Mhz and 2133Mhz RAMs are quite close in price -- not sure what it's like in your home town.

For an upgrade path to the new Kaveri APU be certain to purchase an FM2+ motherboard.

Wisecracker I am in London.....therefore I use Amazon for anything lol

Yep then you are both saying what I read around 2133mhz and 8gb..... yes I am planning to use the APU or I need to throw in a dedicated graphic and to be honest he can pay for it in the future 😛

The A10 6800K has good GPU performance my nephew still playing and loving Warcraft III better than anything else on earth...so it is not an "ULTRA SETTING" fanatic :)

I may need to budget something more and get 8GB 1866 or 2133 then...

I don't know if the prices in uk are different from the ones in Norway, but in norway there is a 10£ difference between the 6800k and 7700k. So what i'm saying is that i would rather go for the 7700k

But....FM2+ Mini ITX motherboard are like....3.....and more expensive than FM2 :)

I think I am spending the extra money to get 8GB 1866 Mhz.... and the day he is not happy with the integrated graphic he can get a dedicated graphic card PCI :)

Not only WoW....he generally prefer PC Gaming, I gave him my Xbox 360 so he is using that at the moment but he is not a fanatic of everything on ULTRA as long as it looks good he is fine :)

Wisecracker I was thinking of:

- Crucial Tactical 8GB Kit (4GBx2) 1866 Mhz £59.99
- MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 AMD FM2 Mini-ITX Motherboard (Socket FM2) £60.26
- AMD APU A10 6800K Black Edition Quad Core Processor £105.71

Then again if he wants he upgrade graphic card and still have a solid CPU for gaming :)

My uncle never think of buying me a new rig...so let's say it is free so it is good lol

Personally not a big fan of MSI mobos due to bad experiences. Also, 2133 should definitely be fit instead of 1866. It offers 5-10% better performance for APUS and the price differential is worth it in my opinion.

I sold it because too noisy for me, not really a big deal but if you have someone sleeping in the same room then yes....however it was running any game on ultra so far... :) Now I have a MSI GTX 770 quieter and cooler and slightly faster :) To be honest my rig is possible the more stable PC I ever had and it runs literally everything so far on max and I am really happy to be back to PC gaming especially with small form factor!

@ohyouknow hmmm there is quite a difference between the two but for a 10% may be worth it then... I have discarded the 1600mhz as possibly far too slow for the use.
