Hay does anyone know anything about this cpu & what it overclocks like on stock HSF? What would it be like running with a ATi 3850 OR 8800GS? I just orderd one since I was able to get one dirt cheap and was wondering about those things. :)

well ive never owned 1 but i'd guess 3.0ghz + will be possible since @ 2.4 it only has a 45w tdp, let us kno wot u get.

if u get 3.0ghz or more then it would be reasonable to match it with a hd3850/8800gs i think, probabarly would even be a decent match for some faster cards if you get the clocks to 3.0ghz or faster.

my 65w athlon x2 5200+ runs at 2.6ghz by default and gets to 3.2 at max overclock. since your cpu is a stripped down version of mine, id guess you'd get urs faster than 3.2ghz if your mobo allows.

the hsf that came with my proc was crap.... i could get to 3.2 ghz with it but at full load there was tonnes of noise and cpu temps rose to ~70.c so i quickly shut my system down. at stock speeds the cooler keeps everything below 50.c in hot weather but is still noisy under load... remember this is the cooler for a 65w cpu, yours is 45w cpu so ur cooler may be worse than this....

good luck and let us know what you manage

Pros: I have the 1640 (2.6ghz) version of this CPU. This is one of the best CPU's I've ever owned for wattage vs. power/speed. I have mine OC'd to 3.2ghz @ 1.33v and can't get it over 32C at full load. The darn thing idles at 17C! I use it primarily for folding@home where performance and low power is a must but gaming is superb with it also having the 1mb L2 cache!

Cons: not free ;-)

Thanks I will let you know what I get when it arrives. I will probably go with the 8800GS when I know the cpu's limits to make sure their is no bottle necks.

psymanproductionszzzzdo you run your house that cold? If your CPU idles at 17c then your ambient is lower than that and thats pretty freakin cold. It seems like your temps may be higher than you think.

Overall the chip looks decent. Hope you can OC it nicely too cuz at 2.4GHz it may hold that GPU back but 3GHz is the sweet spot so anything higher than that should keep the 8800GS happy.
