[citation][nom]deicist[/nom]Arm dosn't make CPUs, they design architectures which companies then license to produce their own chips. So the A4 / A5 were based on the ARM architecture, but designed and built by Apple. And @alyoshka... they hardly just poached some guy from Apple, this is the dude who was responsible for the K8. AKA the last time AMD came up with a decent architecture.[/citation]
The A5 SoC with the exception of the GPU was designed by Apple, the CPU in the A4 was designed by Intrinsity and Samsung (Apple later bought Intrinsity). None of these SoCs are built by Apple, but by Samsung.

I am very happy for AMD. I really hope this gives them some new insight. x86 is dead, i have been saying this for almost a year that it's end is coming. I am predicting that this guy will bring ARM into the desktop market via AMD. What do you guys think?

x86 is dead? When did that happen?

Anyway, on the article, i think this is great. I think this will still be more to do with APU design, because after all SoCs have a CPU and GPU on the same chip too (afaik). Still, this dude is badass, i hope this means it's AMD vs Intel again.

AMD's Bob Feldstein went to Apple only a week ago, now Apple's Jim Keller returns back to AMD. What's this, a talent exchange program between AMD and Apple? It looks like that Apple is either planning to buy AMD, whose market cap is only 3 billions; or lending a hand to AMD to curb Intel's monopoly.

@oj88 anyone will say x86 is the current beast to have, (a 4 yr old atom can still win vs new arm). Intel is getting into a situation to fight ARM... again. Apple has always had an intrest in non x86, and 2 companies are looking into x86/arm. Nvidia, AMD. I think you might be right in a way. I also think it is fair to say AMD and Apple have some agreement, even if its just in words.

This is a huge gain for AMD nonetheless, even if it costs a shiny penny. Lets hope he has a good team under him that can produce shocking and massive performance boosts again.

Great news. We need AMD to beat Intel in power efficiency. They don't have to be fastest.

We are going to be waiting at least 2 to 4 years. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
