Epic fail. They will slowly dissolve into a graphic's chip maker and APU manufacturer. That's a shame because that means Intel won't "innovate" as fast as it had been over the past decades. I don't want to see another Pentium 4. They had it good with the Athlon XP vs Pentium 4, but the Core 2 Duo really changed the landscape. They just couldn't keep paces with Intel since then.

It's ironic because it was Intel who was advertising their processor based on the "clock" speed and finally changed it to a numbering system (like AMD was doing). And now the table had completely turned. I remember the days of Pentium 4 when Intel would advertise it as "Pentium 4 3.2GHz!" and AMD would list their processr as AMD Athlon X 3200+. Blah, I even remember the days when the MMX, SSE, 3DNow! mumbo jumbo crap was out there.

That's too bad, Thunderbird was the first platform I performed a DIY computer.

I don't like using laptops as I prefer using a desktop computer. The setup with my desktop I have got the radiation side away from me, while with a laptop you will have it on your lap frying your genitals and giving your cancer to go with the genitals.

To me it sounds like company got being that wants to make excuses, the company should bring out another range of CPU's to rival Intel, otherwise Intel will definitely put they prices up due to know competition and they will monopolize the market. The same way we are seeing with Tesco in a different market with prices going up in that market. So back in the computing market we need as many CPU makers to keep the prices competitive and affordable for the buyer as well.

Other wise it will feel like we are seeing more rothschilds and rockefellers with Intel to squeeze the money out of computer builders.

I think AMD needs to suck it up and stop making excuse like a politician.

I have had intel equipment and they just breakdown allot faster than AMD I notice. I just think AMD is slapping they customers and other people getting to know AMD as there is no proper marketing in the UK for people to know about the product.

So AMD is at fault when it comes to side of marketing, the reason people know Intel exists more than AMD is the marketing side. Everyone I know in area only knows about Intel until I push forward AMD for them to checkout. AMD needs to get they finger out and advertise the product better.

Also if my spelling and grammar on both comments lazy, I am taking a leaf out of AMD book.

If a metal tin, proper packaging for the CPUs, lower cost, and more cores dont attract more customers to take a look, i dont know what will. this is for the crowd that buys pre-builts.

and no. if a intel system goes down too often, you are doing it wrong with cheapo motherboards. they are both just as reliable in terms of the CPU

[citation][nom]Anonymous[/nom]Guess you could say when AMD fans heard the annoucement they were hopping amd.[/citation]
all you guys that downvoted can suck it, that was funny 😛

Intel is basically doing the same thing with the PC CPU, except that they have a CPU lead over AMD. Ivy Bridge is not much faster than Sandy Bridge, clock for clock.

Intel has added support for a few more things with Ivy over Sandy as well, however, there is nothing earth shaking. For PCs Intel is focused on GPU improvement more than CPU.

I expect this trend to continue, and if the economy can stand continued investment in electronics in the coming years, Intel will probably try to break into the low end PC GPU field in an effort to grab profits there. This is in addition to everything else Intel is doing in the non-PC area, however, my thrust is PCs and CPU development.

A sad day. Not only for AMD fans, but everyone using a pc today. If AMD pulls out of the CPU market, Intel will have no competitor. No progress will be made anymore, as there will be no impetus to stay ahead of the game. Prices will soar and Moore's law might stagnate due to this monopoly.

If AMD pulls out of the CPU market, Intel will be sliced by the government. Not necessarily a bad thing but guess the FUD will make intel slow down the desktop performance race. They can afford wait for AMD but not to dispatch them, that will kill Intel as we know it .Meanwhile are having fun chasing ARM.

To be fair is a very old thread, bulldozer was very over priced back then now is the other way around, at close-out prices actually is the best value for the money out there.

As for performance the shared x86 decoder was a stupid idea it can decode 6 instruction but shared by two cores so (allow me to be simplistic) 6/2=3 instruction per core/clock instead of 4 of the phenom ii; that alone doomed the cores to starvation.Steamroller will be a step in the right direction, the decoder are not longer shared

I agree. This is disheartening at first. But let's see if AMD is getting back to the basics. A decade ago..AMD was the prime choice for college students for budget pc's...and not "$30 dollar less than Intel" budget..a real budget. Now, because of chasing intel...the word "budget" relates to the cost of "shoulders and knees". Who cares if you're a pro and you can build you're budget rig after 3 hours of research. There are too many people out there making compromises of $20 - $100 more than they should have spent in the first place in their builds. AMD has to go back to the hallowed training ground that Intel never completed; to build a line of processors that speaks towards functionality, reliability and COST...this is their kung fu, and it is STRONG.
