I would still be patient as AMD Zone is testing a lot of pro-AMD benches. But I can almost be sure that a 2.3GHZ A64 or 2.4GHZ will definitely kick the P4's arse. I believe I replied to Slvr about his claim which I thought was odd, since he usually researches before claiming, and this was quite a bold statement from him.

Wasn't the p4 using half the memory? I don't want to start an amd vs. intel war...but...

If the tested systems are not perfectly alike...then i cannot trust the results...

hhmmmm, it says they used 4 512mb sticks for the opteron (2gbs!!!)and "For the Athlon and P4 box we used Corsair's TwinX XMS3206v1.1 256MB DDR400 sticks." plural indicates more than one (i.e. 512mb), but certainly could not possibly be 2gbs, having said that the difference between 512mb and 2Gbs would be surprisingly small, if any difference at all, as few programme needs that much, lots of memory is only good for multitasking and certain programmes, but then this does beg the question of why they used 2Gbs in the first place. maybe it is to offset the fact that the opteron memory had a higher latency.

yeah, my respect for amdzone really slipped when i saw the benchmarks, funny how they always forget to do probably the most common extreme task for a home computer which also happens to be a major stronghold of the P4 (divx and other media stuff etc..). But, isnt the P4s lead in these areas due (at leat partly) to high memory bandwidth?, which now opteron actually beats it in as they both have 6.4Gbs/sec, but opterons is more efficient, would be nice to see if opteron had made up lost ground in these areas.

I don't care...i mean...it seems that they are hidding something...i see they are trying to make up for the fact that there are not many high speed LL ecc modules...but still i cannot trust the benchies...I am sorry but that is how i feel...i know that theoretically there should be no diffrence...but my gut feeling tells me that AMD (hint hint) zone is trying to make the opteron look better than it is...

I am an amd and intel user...but i just am suspicious....

Actually THGC tested a 1.8GHZ in Workstation. You can try to extrapolate results from it.
