AMD CPU 100% Usage and 98 Degrees Celsius Temperature

This is what my computer case is currently showing me, this has been going on for a couple days but I just noticed. My CPU usage in taskmanager is also 100-90% used at all times. This is my setup.

What is the issue and how can I figure it out? fans or heatsink or what?

Music and video at lowest quality are lagging and I can barely do anything

Does the task manager show what is using all the cpu cycles? it should in most cases.

it does but when it goes to 90-100 it just assigns it to whatever is open and switches quickly so it might say

taskmanager 45% and then the next second

I do not think it should be THAT bad. I know my old single core gets like that(does not take much to peg it at 100%), but it is a slow old cpu and that is expected.

Cleaning you cpu cooler with compressed air would not hurt.

tried that, its not programs that are using the CPU there is a problem

Can you try something like process explorer to see what is up. It shows much more than the task manager does.

If you are showing 100% use, something has to be doing it. If it was just hot, I would bet it has become dirty and needs a clean.

But i see Steam .exe is taking memory . Run Resource monitor and see which program is consuming the CPU time.

steam is running as usual, my big problem is the 100 Celsius degree temp my CPU has

In Process Explorer, try to use the cpu column to get a screen shot. Memory usage does not always mean it is a cpu hog as well.


As you can see the memory hogging programs are not the same ones using more cpu time(at least not in all cases).

It also looks like you have MS security essentials running. I would try with it off, just in case it is going overboard.

Dude ive explained this 3 times, when the CPU reaches high usage it randomly assigns what uses the CPU most, so it might say Taskmanager 45% and then the next half second it will say Task Manager 0% Chrome 32%

My main issue right now is the temperature

Have you tried reapplying thermal paste to the processor? You can pick a tube of it up for 5 dollars at your local fry's or on newegg. It is something that is cheap and really helps the cooling out. Also if you could post a picture of the inside of your computer and tell us how many fans you have that would be great!!! What I am looking for here is the cable management inside your case to see if it is ruining the airflow and I will be looking to see if there is a better place where you could mount the fans in order to give the computer better cooling. After this I will be able to help you fix these issues or possibly move on to other possible problems.

well I was looking at this http://www.arctic.ac/us_en/products/cooling/thermal-compound/mx-4.html but is there anyway this is a result of some overclocking? I never really tried to overclock before but 2 days ago I used this program http://coderbag.com/Programming-C/CPU-core-parking-manager but I doubt it has anything to do with this. Is there a way to check if this is a hardware problem or clocking problem?

New paste may help(MX4 is good stuff), first try to run the case open if you can.

Your cpu is WAY to old to be trying to park cores and it has NO boost ability. You should not need extra programs to take care of it. Also you know when you overclock the cpu sometimes, you are also pushing the memory(can cause all kinds of issues).

If you think the issue is overclocking, why not drop to stock speeds and see what happens. Overclocking increases heat for sure. Better cooling is always recommended for overclocking.

Prime95 is a stress test to check stability of the system(cpu and memory with the blend test), but I would NEVER use it with a cpu that hot.

LOL you didn't tell us you over clocked!!! This is almost 100% a result of over clocking!!!! I would recommend taking your clock down to what it was at before you over clocked and in the future over clock in bios instead of using a program to do it. The programs today generally do work, but BIOS is the surefire old school way to do it. I can confidently say that this was a result of over clocking and that if you take it back to its previous settings it will be fixed.

okay awesome, how can I drop the stock speeds? or revert whatever overclocking has been attempted? as I dont remember deliberately trying to overclock my cpu in the past few months

Okay so what you need to do is you need to open that program you used and drag the slider at the bottom all the way to the left. After a while check the temps and post back. What that is doing is limiting your cpu idling. That is why your cpu is getting random tasks, because it is idling, but that program keeps it working and keeps it performing calculations. I would recommend that if this fixes the problem, uninstall it and forget about it. Out of sight, out of mind. Hope this helps!!!

Just go into bios and load defaults for starters. You may have to re set your ram speeds but it will get your cpu back to stock anyway.

Bones it is actually the program that is causing the problem, not an over clock. He has a program on that makes the cpu not allowed to idle, so it is sending random calculations to the processes in order to keep the cpu busy.
