Amd CPU Upgrade Help?

SO i have the Amd Sempron 140 CPU atm on the M2N68-LA (Narra5) mobo, I want to upgrae my cpu but i have been having trouble. The mobo specs say i can upgrade to many different cpu's like

AMD Phenom II Quad-Core
AMD Phenom II Triple-Core
AMD Phenom Quad-Core (A) 9xxx series (AM2+)
AMD Phenom Triple-Core (T) 8xxx series (AM2+)
AMD Athlon X4
AMD Athlon X3
AMD Athlon X2 (B) (AM2+)

I am thinking about either the Phenom II Quad-Core or the Athlon x4, Which is a better choice?, and when looking up some of these processors they said they support DDR3 ram but my motherboard Supports DDR2 ram, is that a problem?, thanks for the help.

Athlon x3 or x4

The memory controller on either chip will run DDR2 or DDR3

I recommend the Athlon X4 860K or the 760K Richland, whichever is cheaper.

What motherboard do you have?

Wrong chipset

Those chips require FM2/FM2+.

An AM3 CPU like the original Athlon x3 or x4 will run on AM2+, AM3 or even an AM3+ motherboard.

The OP has an HP desktop from roughly 2008 (M2N68-LA (Narra5) mobo)

The chipset is an nVidia 6150/430.
