Hey guys, unfortunately I can't seem to find any literature from AMD outright saying whether or not an AMD FirePro W5100 graphics card draws its power form the motherboard or not. I have to use these cards in dell workstations for an engineering department at my company and would be very interested in knowing before I order them. Anybody know if these things need separate power? Prompt responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

As far as I know, the graphics card needs to be connected to the PSU. On the front of the card (the side opposite of where the card connects to the PCI slot) there should be a plug or two.

Any idea if its standard PSU connector? Or will I need an adapter? Want to make sure I have everything I need, thank you.

You shouldn't need an adapter. Your PSU should have a cable that comes with it that will work with the card already. Hopefully labeled PCI on the cable. (there are molex adapters, but I can't say if your card will use one. Probably not though)

It's slightly different for each card so don't worry if part of the connector doesn't get used. For example, on my 980's I use 2 6 prongs (can you call them prongs?) instead of a 2 and 6 prong plug. Make sure the connector is fully secured in place and goes into the PCI slot on the PSU. Your manuals should tell you what to do specifically.

What I mean is that I have part of a cable hanging from my PSU to PCI. It has 2 prongs/holes to connect to a PCI device and just sits there unused.

A little bit late, but this Card does not have any seperate connectors for power. It uses at max. < 75W. There is an info which states they suggest a 500W PSU, but you can do the math for your machine(s) and tell if its suffient or if you can go with a lower one :)
